Staying with Joe and Liz was definitely the highlight of our 7 day road trip in France. We felt welcomed from the first second. Joe’s enthusiastic passion for wines is contagious. Liz is superb at hosting and in the kitchen. Overall, amazing experience. We are planning to come back already! Thanks a lot guys!

Joe and Liz are excellent hosts, they made us feel so welcome the minute we arrived. They provide an unique experience in their vinery which is also their home.

The food and wine were delicious and plentiful.

We had a great night and would highly recommend it to anyone

We thoroughly enjoyed our evening at O’Vineyard. Joe gave an interesting tour and was very knowledgeable, followed by Liz’s fantastic food and ‘copious’ wine. Excellent value for money. Would definitely recommended.

Is the owner paying for good reviews?
Was anybody on this tour, who is really into wine??
A huge lack of knowledge, combined with overconfidence is what you get for a lot of money. The wine you get served is obviously absolutely overrated.
Normaly I would always recommend to buy wine directly from the producer, but in this case not! Better go to the next supermarket and buy some regional wine from someone who knows what he´s doing!
For native speakers: It's convenient to book the tour here, because he speaks english; nevertheless it's better to learn a few scraps of French!

Joe, who owns the vineyard and also makes the tour, he sells quite good white whine (Chasan), but he does not kow anything about whine. He rated a question about white wine from red grapes as a really stupid question and was somehow surprised when I told him about "blanc de noir". This is not what I expect from someone producing wine in one of the most famous regions for wine in the world. Allthough the white wine was quite good, the red wines tasted like fermented grape juice, but in a really bad way.
I teach about the process of making wine at an university professionally, so it's not simply about bad taste. It's also about a serious lack of knowledge about the whole process, because the lack of knowledge about "blanc de noir" was not the only thing he was wrong about.
If you want to buy wine in France, do NOT book a stupid tour, just follow a sign, they will show you all of the wines they have for free, they will tell you about it, so you know what you are buying. If you have no clue about wines, you will be fine, go ahead, but if you are into good french wine: You even will be better when you will go to the next supermarket.

My boyfriend and I visited O'Vineyards on a recent trip to Carcassonne. It was about 20 euros and 15 minutes from the Cite in a taxi. I'd booked months in advance. The website, booking process and contact from the owners was very good.

The vineyard is owned by a lovely husband and wife couple; Joe and Liz. Joe does the wine and Liz does the food. They are very personable and we instantly felt comfortable around them!

Upon arrival we were warmly greeted by Joe and shown into their wonderful home. There was another couple and a single traveler on our booking also. It started well with our first tasting before midday!

Liz introduced herself and asked about food preferences. She would be preparing lunch whilst we were with Joe on the vineyard.

Our tour began outside on the fields and then we saw around the distillery. We tasted about 5 more wines; red and white. My knowledge of French wine is limited but Joe pitched it just right. It was informative, educational and fun! We were able to ask any questions and not made to feel silly! The tour lasted just over an hour which was perfect.

We then went inside and were all seated together for lunch around their big dining table. It was a very different experience to sitting as a couple in a restaurant, but the informal and friendly nature made it truly unique. Joe and Liz sat and ate with us, and told funny stories, providing great entertainment. We were given more wine and there was plenty flowing for the remainder of the meal. Our glasses were constantly topped up by our wonderful hosts.

Liz served us with what was one of the most fantastic dinners I've had in someone's home. It was plentiful, tasty, fresh and creative. We had aperitifs, salad, soup, two choices of Asian inspired main courses, cheese, dessert, followed by coffee and more wine.

The whole day lasted over 6 hours, so it was well worth the money and provided a full day of entertainment!

I can't highly recommend this experience enough if you love great wine, fabulous food and nice hosts!

Where to start?

When first reading the reviews here of Domaine O’Vineyards, you could be forgiven for taking the superlatives written here with a modicum of apprehension. How could such a place be so perfect for wine lovers and, for that matter, for non-wine lovers? Well, believe me, it can.
We had booked for a group of six (three couples) for wine tasting and an evening meal on Sunday 15th April – some wine lovers, some not (but these were slowly coming around to our way of thinking due to the time spent in France!). We arrived at around 4 o’clock and were initially met by Joe, who you may think is a little quiet at first meeting. That conception very soon disappears. Within a few minutes we are discussing all things wine, and were soon whisked down to the vines and the house cellar/basement area, where the large fermentation vats and wine barrels were kept. At this point we were also joined by another member of the family – Muse (the dog!). She seemed rather pleased to see us! Lots of discussions ensued, with plenty of banter and laughs, complete with tasting wines from vats and barrels to get a good idea of how the wine evolves as it ferments and matures. If there is one thing Joe is not, it is a wine snob. He has a great knowledge, but doesn’t come across as being a know-it-all, and is always ready to answer any questions. He is obviously a very clever man, having been involved with many large building projects in the past (in America), but presently running the vineyard mostly single handed.

We eventually move upstairs, try more wine (same wine but some from vats, some from American oak and some from French oak barrels) – interesting to compare how this changes the wine so much. We then are also met by Joe’s wife Liz who has been preparing our food. She promptly tells us that she has prepared seven courses for the evening, including vegetarian options for my wife! She looked like she had been resting for the day (she obviously had not!) – very cool and collected!

We begin to eat, having great conversation (and not just about wine). Both Joe and Liz are great conversationalists. Perfect hosts for the evening. Course after course flowed from the kitchen – Liz preparing, serving and eating with us, along with Joe. She is super-human! Each dish was lovely, fresh and very, very tasty. Joe was continually flitting off to his personal wine cellar, bringing out new bottles, regularly filling our glasses with his lovely wines. My favourites - O’Syrah, and the absolutely divine Proprietor’s Reserve. There was one instant when I was tucking into some Roquefort cheese, fresh bread and a glass of the Reserve when I thought that this was the most perfect moment – just heaven, life cannot get any better than this!
We carried on chatting, finishing with coffees around the log fire, and also had a quick tour of the house and guest bedrooms.

Seven hours after our arrival (at 11 o’clock), we finally left, feeling that we had all had a unique and wonderful evening and made new friends. We discussed it in the car on the way back to our lodgings in Felines, we discussed it when we got back to Felines, we discussed it the next day, such was the impact the day had made on us.

Don’t hesitate – just book it! It is a very unique experience that you will rarely find in this modern world. We will undoubtedly be back. Hmmmm, I wonder, could I get a Ryanair flight just for the evening.......? (smiley face thingy).

At first, we thought our GPS had gone berserk. As we drove through the residential outskirts of Villemoustaussou there was no sign of vineyards -- not a vine in sight, just houses and driveways. Then the road came to an end, becoming a gravel track. We carried on. After a few yards the panorama opened up, revealing gently rolling hills as far as the eye could see, sunflowers, trees and, yes, vines!
What followed was four days of blissful peace (apart from the birdsong!) combined with a warm, friendly welcome and an insight into winemaking.
We felt lucky that we were the only guests. It was just us and the 3-man/1-woman family team who run the place. Our days started off on the wooden terrace overlooking the beautiful view with the most artistically presented breakfasts we have ever come across (compliments to Gilbert & Darren), delicious too and varied daily. The wine tour, done in English (Joe also does them in French) gave us the opportunity to learn a great deal about the wine-making process and he seemed to enjoy being bombarded by questions. The "Wine and Dine Experience" is exactly what it says -- an experience. This is NOT a restaurant with a menu, a wine list and waiters -- this is dining in someone's private home and sharing a table with them. Liz serves a 5-course meal while Joe pours at least as many wines while engaging in entertaining and thoughtful conversation. From their dining room, if you have good eyesight, you can even see the towers of Carcassonne.
Finally, a word to those TA users who did not enjoy their visit as much as we did. Yes, you could buy a bottle of similar wine for less at the local supermarket. Yes, you could go to a restaurant for the same price and eat á la carte -- but you'd be missing the point. This is a unique experience, in someone's private home, eating the food and drinking the wine that they have passionately created themselves. For us, it was more than worth it.

We visited the winery with friends and having never done a vineyard tour before we didn't quite know what to expect. To say we were all blown away is an understatement!! From the moment we got there we were made to feel really welcome. (especially when you get a glass of wine handed to you straight away!) Joe started by giving us a tour of the vines and then onto the wine store while telling us all about the area and the different grapes and the wines produced. After that it was time to go and meet up with Liz and the boys again (Gilbert and Darren) for dinner. WOW! The food was excellent. Incredible starters followed by a superb main and dessert all accompanied by some of the excellent wines produced by O'Vineyards. We all loved our visit here and haven't stopped talking about it since and have even ordered some wines since coming home. (you can buy at the vineyard but had forgot the plastic!) all in all an unforgettable day and would definitely recommend a visit. We will be back.

We are so glad that you enjoyed your experience! Many of our guests do not realize that we also ship our wines. This can be particularly handy for those Ryan Air travelers with limited carry on space. Nevertheless, we are glad that you enjoyed your visit as much as we did!

My wife and I have been here three times this summer and we enjoyed it more and more with every visit! Whether we brought friends, parents or grown up children everybody enjoyed the experience and considered it the highlight of their visit. Jo and Liz are the consummate hosts and put a lot of effort in to making sure that all the guests have a wonderful time. On top of this - the wines are the best in the region and the food varied and always a delight. If you like fabulous wines and enjoy great food you will not be disappointed. It has taken us 6 years to find O'Vineyard and we will not forget it! Take a taxi as you will not want to drive home!
