Overview
More
The Flower Garden Banks were discovered by fishermen in the late 1800's and named for the colorful reefs found there. Situated 70 to 115 miles off the coasts of Texas and Louisiana, the sanctuary includes three separate areas: East Flower Garden Bank, West Flower Garden Bank, and Stetson Bank. These protected underwater communities rise from the depths of the Gulf of Mexico atop underwater mountains called salt domes, which are only accessible by boat. Diving and fishing can be enjoyed by visitors through several commercial dive and fishing charter operators that take people out to the sanctuary and the surrounding oil and gas platforms.

Dove the East Bank, West Bank reef, Stetson, and an oil rig. Also a night dive. The reef was beautiful. The MV Fling was great. Wonderful staff! Very safety conscious. The food aboard the Fling was wonderful. Be sure to bring your Bonine!

Without a doubt, one of the most amazing places in the world. Very isolated and teeming with marine life! Great for fishing, diving, and more.

Hello! Diving is the best way to see the reefs of the sanctuary up close, due to the depth profiles of the banks (the shallowest part of the reef cap is in 50-60 ft of water; most of the best spots are at depths of 70-130... More
