There are too many things to talk about Alishan, an awesome mountain town with a perpetual 20C temperature in autumn... I'll cover just the town in this review. For the nature hikes, read my other review under "Alishan Forest Railway". Alishan town area is a small - there are just three main "levels": - stretch of hotel at the lowest... More

After riding the local train, it does need a long walk up and down, trailing in the forest of pine tree. I love the green, the smell, the atmosphere, the coolness, and the energy of the nature. Must witness with your own eyes.

Alishan National Scenic Area is basically a forested area where you can see Cedar trees some of which are more than 1,000 years old. We went in March and there are beautiful cherry blossoms as well. This attraction is ticketed. However elderlies above 65 have a big discount. NT10 per ticket per elderly. Try the forest train. It's a nice... More

Alishan is quite hard to access, along as you have to use public transport. In the "easy accessible" main part of Alishan were quite a lot of tourist just taking photos, that was a bit of a bummer for me. But as son as leave the "main" part and go on the more "physically exhausting" paths it is quite empty,... More

We visited in late December last year. Except for the spectacular sunset that greeted us just before arriving at the park entrance (driving from Yushan), Alishan was generally quite underwhelming and a little too touristy for us. It was also the only scenic area we visited that charged entrance fees (NT150 pax on weekdays/NT200 pax on weekends, plus NT100 per... More

Went on a cold snap and it was freezing cold -1 and we were unfortunately unprepared. The hotel told us the train was at 5:50am and to leave the hotel at 5:00am. This is too late and although we arrived at 4:50am, the queue was already too long! The train took about half an hour and then you had to... More
