OMG. Our nightmare had begun with the train ride from Taipei to Ruifang. The train was so packed we had to pushed to get inside, not to mention seats. Once inside, the 1.5 hour ride packed like sardines was than Dante's infernal. Once we got to Ruifang, we took a cab that smelled that it was soaked in nicotine. I... More

Jiufen old street is good place to visit and had some traditional street food sold here that are worth trying, such as oyster omelette, snacks, rice cake, BBQ squids, mushrooms, grilled Taiwanese sausages, baked chicken, noodles dishes, bubble pearl milk tea and so many things. There are some interesting souvenirs, bags, clothes and accessories also sold here. It's fun just people... More

Maybe because we went on a rainy day, we did not find the place crowded. But in the early evening when the lighting was perfect for photos everyone was on the steps and it became quite crowded. Still, there was enough space to move about. The bus stop from Taipei changed (in March 2017) and quite a few of the... More

This is a very touristy attraction that we found crowded even in off-season and in the evening hours past sunset. Just brace yourself to move slowly in a crowd and you'll be fine. There are many food and trinket stalls lining the covered old street but you can find off-alleys and small side spaces for to sit, snack and take... More

it does has old feel, and old streets, and remind you of studio ghibli animation when you walk some portions of it. there are stalls selling food and drinks, and merchandises. I had been told that when you buy sliced thinned pork snack, there is a shop without any proper shop name, and quite small shop. that shop is selling... More

Jiufen is rather a good place to see. However, considering the time scheduled to take and what you deserved to see is far from expectation. Just the tea house and some real old houses are worth visiting and taking some photos.

Nice old street, with slight room for exploring. We had lunch and walked around. Found an alley which lead to the housing area outside of the old street. We enjoyed that walk more, actually. However, Jiufen is a must-visit place at least once, especially if you are a fan of Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited Away.

I love this strip of the city, it says everything about the Taiwanese culture. From the little markets to restaurants this place is unpredictable. There's one heck of a view as well. We stayed in the city for 2 nights at the Orange Pig Inn and we always had something new to find in Jiufen. But be careful of the... More

To avoid the crowd on Bus No.1062 from Zhongxiao Fuxing station which is direct bus but too many people, you can go to Taipei Main Station and take a TRA to Ruifang station and then take bus No.866 to Jiufen old street. We only paid 44 for TRA and 15 for bus. Jiufen is famous for one of the cafe... More

I visited here at night time which I think would be the best time. There was such a great buzz and atmosphere as soon as you arrive with all the people, lights and colours. There are a lot of steps to climb however there are also lots of places to stop and rest or look thru shops to give your... More
