very good park alternate to the main Zion canyon !
Jun. 2021
if you go to Zion park, please go to Kolob Canyon, which is beside the main Zion park "west entry". This is small, but you have the same stone, same landscape....but with LESS people ! that is very good.
I recommend inside the trails; timber creek (at the end of the road (restroom)), the longest is Lee Pass Trailhead (14 miles) with first miles in the sun, and after you are walking inside the canyon, along the river, then you have shadow and trees. The last one is taylor creek trail, small but very good to do with kids.
I recommend the Kolob canyon with family ! no issue to park the car ! and no people.
(When we arrived in the west entry of Zion park at 8am, no car lot was available !!, then you must pay along the road, go to the shuttle, there are impressive queues....)

Highly Recommend Kolob Canyons!!!
Jun. 2021 • Couples
As others have mentioned, avoid the crowds at Zion main park and come here. My husband and I had only planned a quick stop after driving from Bryce to Springdale but ended up going back the next day for a 2nd hike.

We first did the Timber Creek Trail because it was shorter but the view is spectacular. Make sure you have bug spray here!

When we returned we did the Taylor Creek Trail which is our favorite so far. If you go all the way to the Double Arch Alcove (highly recommend doing so, it’s breathtaking) it’s about 6.5 miles round trip. You cross the creek frequently but there isn’t much water right now so easy to keep your feet dry. Take LOTS of water even though there is shade & it’s a bit cooler in the wooded areas.

Amazing views minus the crowds of Zion
Jun. 2021 • Family
After a long line at 7am in Zion and a busy hike through The Narrows, we opted for the less busy part of Zion the next day. If you’re looking for stunning views, ample parking, and a trail to yourself, this is a must stop. If you’re not up for a hike, there are some beautiful overlook stops along the road. Worth the visit!

Visit late afternoon/evening
Jun. 2021 • Couples
We visited mid morning as a side trip on our way back to Vegas. The canyon is much more lush than the main part of Zion and very beautiful it does not photograph well as everything is backlit in the morning. Also it was too hot to enjoy hiking so we passed on the trails.

Great views!

It is part of Zion but has a separate fee, we used our America the beautiful pass. Gorgeous views, clean bathrooms, we did the Timbercreek overlook trail and it was amazing! Drive up is not bad at all.

Choose Kolob to avoid the Zion crowds
May 2021
This is a great alternative to the very crowded main part of Zion National Park. I recommend the Timber Creek Overlook Trail first and the Taylor Creek trail second. The Timber Creek trail is fairly short but quite scenic at the top. We went in the morning, but it is probably even more beautiful late afternoon. The Taylor Creek trail is longer, with many stream crossings but fewer amazing views. If you can't get shuttle tickets to the main park at Zion, the Kolob Canyons are a good option. Kolob is a 50 minute drive from the main part of Zion. Kudos also to the knowledgeable and friendly park rangers at Kolob.

Nice scenery with trails to explore
May 2021
The scenic drive is about 5 miles long offering views of the nearby cliff faces. Taylors creek trail offers a closer look if you can handle the hike up canyon along the creek. You will cross the creek many times on the trail, but should not get wet since the creek is normally very shallow. Just hop the rocks across. There are some historic cabins along the trail and a large grotto at the end with some natural arches. The trail is in a very peaceful setting making for an enjoyable walk. Parking at the trail head is an issue unless you get there early. It will get hot in the canyon as the day progresses.

No crowd, yet full of beauty worth visiting
Apr. 2021 • Family
We arrived in Zion Canyon too early to check into our lodge, so we took the opportunity to drive up the Colob Canyon, and it was a great decision. Colob Canyon scenic drive was gorgeous, there was no crowd, and had a couple of beautiful trails. We picked the short Timber Creek Trail, and my family thoroughly enjoyed the views during the trail. One side presented with signature Zion “red” rocks while the opposite side showed green mountain. Definitely recommend Colob / Timber Creek combination.

Less crowded than Zion, but beautiful vistas
Nov. 2020
Less traveled than Zion, but equally magnificent vistas along the main scenic route into the park. They offer a handful of nice hikes.

We decided to take break from hiking and took a drive out here. It was so pretty and just different from the rest of Zion.
