Winding trip through the mountains and canyons of the park. A couple of tunnels. Nice photo ops. Price is a little high, but I guess you're contributing to keeping National Paks open, so it was worth it. The town just before the park has some shops and places tom eat as well.

You have to drive it if you want to get through the East gate. I think it's a fun drive but you need to have your headlights on. The rangers do make sure one side takes turns with the other side driving through. That way there are no collisions. Just make sure you don't stop and you're fine.

The Zion-Mount Carmel Tunnel is a mile long engineering marvel located above the Zion Canyon floor inside of Zion National Park. This Park is located in southern Utah about 160 miles northeast of Las Vegas, Nevada. It is also located about 300 miles south of Salt Lake City, Utah. This interesting tunnel was constructed between 1927 - 1930. The tunnel... More

It takes your breath away, when you see the view from the openings cut in the rock, they are called windows......You have to do it....expect a wait sometimes, as coaches can only drive in the middle of the road so traffic is controlled.....An engineering master piece......

This drive is so beautiful. The tunnel is quite amazing. There are Windows carved out inside of the tunnel so you can see out. When we exited the tunnel, many cars were stopped so we stopped and saw a herd of mountain goats up on the mountainside above the tunnel. It's a beautiful way to enter Zion National Park.

In the midst of a strikingly beautiful drive along the Zion-Mount Carmel Highway (Utah Highway 9), we were delighted to find The Zion-Mt Carmel Tunnel. Begun in 1927 and finished in 1930, this amazing tunnel features a sandstone façade at the western portal and what appear to be a naturally formed hole in the rock on the eastern portal. As... More

I had no idea that there were two tunnels in Zion, one being a mile long, and the other a short one. In order to drive from Springdale to Mt. Carmel, you have to go through the tunnels and gain altitude to the top of the mesa, which is totally different geologically than Zion valley. Since the main (longest) tunnel... More

The traffic was stopped and only one side was allowed to go at a time. Not sure if this is the norm but took a little extra time.
