Loved Mary's Rock Overlook! See the photo! The weather was perfect for a hike this day and we wanted to hike the entire 9 mile trail but ran short on time. Some spots of the trail can be rocky and steep but overall it is definitely a moderate trail.

Hiking in winter to the top of a mountain ridge is only for the diehards. You'll experience first hand how brutally cold it can be on a sunny day. It was about 11 degrees and when we got to Mary's Rock the wind chill made in below freezing. A great experience if you can handle it.

We took our 4 and 6 year old here this past summer. The hike was perfect for the kids. They always love a hike that ends with a beautiful summit view. We packed lunch and at it at the top of the mountain. Gorgeous sweeping views up there with plenty of places to eat. A crowded trail on the weekends.

So- I've done the Mary's Rock hike 6 times now- and its refreshing every time. YOu can do it with your family- and kids about 6 or 7 or so. It takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes if you are moving slow- an hour and 10 or so if you are quick on your feet. You can also take... More

We parked at the Panorama parking lot, and the trail starts right there. The round trip up and down the summit is about 2 hours and roughly 3.5 miles. The view at top is nice. However, the trail is laid with all rocks, very hard on your feet and knees and easy to twist your ankles. After the climb, we... More

Left from the Jewell Hollow Overlook parking lot. The path to the AT is at the back of the large parking lot. The north/south direction on the AT wasn't immediately clear, but you stay to the right and go very briefly south before a u-turn for the north trail. This is a primarily wooded trail. Much of it is rocky,... More

Pack a lunch and make the 3.7 round trip climb. At the top--you'll have a wonderful view of the valley as well as where you entered the park. Bring bug spray and water. The terrain may be a little tough (steep inclines, rocks, tree branches) for some but overall I would say a moderately challenging hike that won't destroy you... More

Enjoyed this hike. Slightly steep elevation change. View from the top was worth the climb. Moderately difficult.

We hiked from Panorama (right next to the Thornton Gap entrance) to the summit. It is a rocky ascent but the path is well-maintained with stairs of rock or wood. There are very few flat stretches. It is 1.85 miles, one-way. The view at the top is spectacular and well worth the effort. Take a snack and hang out resting... More

If I could sum up our visit on one word it would be: Awestruck! We began our hike at Jewel Hollow Overlook and went straightaway to Mary's Rock. It was not easy, but ever so worth it. The weather was in the high 80's, but hiking in the woods was very comfortable. The somewhat mid stop at Robin's Nest was... More
