We drove through during both fog and a clear day. Obviously the views were more magnificent when the skies were blue, but even with clouds there were patches of brilliance

This is a very nice drive that can be whatever you want it to be. I highly recommend stopping and going for a hike, though. Don't just drive it; walk it a bit.

This road was made by the CCC specifically just for the breathtaking views. But wait there's more... you get to see deer and sometimes even bears on this drive. And then you can stop at Skyland or Big Meadows or the Waysides and have a...More

I enjoyed Skyline drive even with clenched fists! I'm not use to this type of driving. You drive down the top of the mountain line. The road is in very good repair and there wasn't a lot of traffic so it was easier to relax....More

We were heading to Gettysburg, PA, via Chancellorsville, VA and I decided to take the Skyline Drive. Since you only can go 35 mph, you need to leave yourself time (about 3 hours + for the whole route). If you have the time it's well...More

The only place on either the Blue Ridge Parkway where you can fuel a vehicle, the weekly ticket, around 15$ per person means you and exit and re-enter Skyline Drive as often as you wish during that week, very handy for places like Luray Caverns,...More

The amazing part of the Skyline Drive is what's off the road. Today we visited Dark Hollow Falls. It's about a 1.4 mile (not easy) hike - round trip from the parking lot off the Skyline Drive to the falls and back. It's one of...More

I'm sure the park has many amenities, but if your driving it for just the views, it's not that good. In Maine, NH, and Vermont there are more spectacular views along regular roads like rte 26, 302,&2.Im sure if your staying in the park its...More

Hi - I am embarking on a mini road trip starting in Philadelphia down to Charlottesville. I do not know much about the MD-VA area. My plan is after visiting Antietam, to travel onward on Skyline Drive , stop and lodge, complete a hike the next morning, then exit the park and proceed to Lexington, VA. Is this feasible? Basically what I am asking is, when embarking on Skyline Drive into the park after Antietam, MD and traveling through, am I heading in the direction of my subsequent destinations of Lexington and Charlottesville? Is Skyline Drive easily accessed from Antietam? Thank you.

We stayed in the Luray cabins. Phone service was spotty but it was well worth every penny waking up to the beauty and each cabin had its own hot tub. 10 min drive from Luray down and caverns. Hope this helps! Have fun.

Is it ever possible to drive on skyline drive after the entrance stations close for free, say in the evening?

No. The entrances are gated and the drive is pitch black in the dark.
