The lake was a pretty standard mountain lake. While it was beautiful, there's a lot better things to see just by hiking around the area. Don't just see the lake, see the rest of the area via the trails too. There's different difficulties so if you want a long hike, they've got it. Short one? There's options.

After driving to Bear Lake, we were not impressed. My husband and I decided to do the hike about a mile to Dream Lake from Bear Lake. Glad we did. Ended up fishing and catching a few fish in the stream and had awesome pictures of the lakes up that way.

Crowded than I thought based on the trail ridge road trail experience. Do Park & Ride through Shuttle good for environment and will save time running around to find Car parking. No hike, just a walk around lake, good for young children. Fantastic views of Rocky Mountains capped with snow. Start early to avoid crowd and for relaxing time. Sit... More

Bear Lake is very family friendly as it is a short flat mile hike around a beautiful lake. There are several longer hikes that branch off from Bear Lake that are very, very nice hikes but do add miles and elevation to your hike. Be sure to check the signs and ask rangers if you have questions. The Bear Lake... More

We are not spring chickens, so the idea of hiking at 10,000 feet did not appeal to me. Not to worry, my son assured us, I have a nice little walk for you. After driving through the park and seeing elk, big-horned sheep, a huge owl's nest, he took us to Bear Lake. It is a glassy lake surrounded by... More

Here's a critical view: this is a walk, not a hike, and about as much of an "escape to nature" as a city park. As schedules happened, we were passing through (on our way to Grand Lake) about 11 a.m. on a Saturday. By that point in June, we were already forced into the large primary park-and-ride. The shuttles came... More

This was a very calm, peaceful lake. There were plenty of places to relax and you could walk around the lake for different views.

There are some excellent inter-tube runs on this lake in the winter. The ice is blown clear so many times you can barely stand on it. Tube goes forever! (may need snowshoes)

At 9am on a Friday morning the parking lot was completely full, thus went to the park and ride and rode a ridiculously crowded bus with 50 of my sweatiest friends :( However, we got there, loved the hike and and the amazing beauty that Colorado has to offer!

At trip to Rocky Mountain National Park is never complete until you have visited Bear Lake in the beautiful Rockies. One of the most tranquil, peaceful settings in all of Colorado. It can be crowded during the peak season, but is well worth the time spent to visit this gorgeous lake.
