We arrived at the Beaver Meadows Visitor Center at 11 am. Big mistake! Traffic was backed up a mile from the visitor center to the entrance station and then there was another one mile back up on Bear Lake Road. We spoke to two Rangers...More

This is the most crowded place in the national park. The parking lot is almost always full, so you have to use a satellite "park and ride" lot a few miles away, with excellent, regular shuttle bus service. The trail around Bear Lake itself is...More

While in the Rocky Mountain National Park we stopped in to view Bear Lake. A trail runs along the shore line and is a easy trail. Get there as early as possible and beat the crowds to avoid having to take the shuttle from the...More

Decide to leave early and then when you are actually getting ready to leave, try to leave even earlier because this part of the park is insanely busy. We completely lucked out getting a spot to park at the Bear Lake parking lot but we...More

My father (70-years-old), son (13) and I spent three hours exploring the trails beyond Bear Lake and had a wonderful time. The trail is not difficult, but shouldn't be taken for granted. The Bear Lake trail itself is short, flat and easy. The scenery is...More

In a word - amazing! I'm not sure there is anything better than an alpine lake. And this one doesn't disappoint. Part of the trail is accessible, which is incredible for this kind of view. Everyone can see this spectacular sight. Parking can be tough....More

A very short walk to the lake and a great path that goes around the perimeter of the lake. The lake was still surrounded by some snow in the forest in June.

One of the things my GF and I wanted to do was to take a moderate hike around a lake. We're in our 70's and the high altitude limited us on endurance. But the Rangers suggested we try Spargue Lake and Bear Lake. Upon going...More

The parking at Bear Lake fills up very early due to its popularity, so I'd recommend showing up as early as 9 to ensure that a parking space is available when you arrive. If not, there's shuttle service available at the Beaver visitor center. Be...More

Depending on when you plan to visit, the closest campgrounds in Rocky Mountain National Park are Glacier Basin and Moraine Park. Aspenglen would be another option in RMNP. Do a Google Search for RMNP campgrounds and you... More

In case another person sees this, the trail around Bear Lake had about 60 inches of snow on the ground on March 16. That amount of accumulated snow is normal in winter and early spring. Sneakers are NOT adequate because... More

HI, I'm pretty sure dogs are not allowed on trails in RMNP. I thought I read that somewhere before our trip. And, I didn't see anything about swimming at Bear Lake.
