We are leaving the park today having taken several lovely walks with our sons (12, 11, and 7). The park was uncrowded and in lovely condition. The trails were well maintained. A great place to take the family. We took the ranger lead tour of newhalem. The ranger said that since we were part of the tour that we could... More

My husband and I went over the North Cascades Highway on our motorcycle. The scenery was so beautiful and peaceful we were constantly shaking our heads in wonder. The highlight was Diablo Lake with its perfect turquoise water. Words can't describe....my husband, who is from New Zealand, said the beauty of this drive rivaled anything in his home country.

You simply must take this drive, through the most rugged part of Washington's mountains. The scenery is stunning at every turn and there are plenty of attractions along the way, particularly if you make a loop trip out of it, returning via Mazama, Winthrop, Chelan, Wenatchee and Leavenworth. The alpine vistas and glacial lakes are breathtaking. Keep in mind that... More

If you enjoy towering mountains covered with snowy glaciers and tall Douglas firs, you will enjoy this drive across the most northern highway across the Washington Cascade Mountain Range. We drove from west to east but have been told the view is even more spectacular driven from east to west. Booklets may be purchased that guide you through the beauty... More

North Cascades National Park is ancient, majestic, rugged & FREE. Founded in 1968, it is free because a State Road runs through it. Great Views of Lakes and Hydro Dams. Enjoy the pristine nature of this park. There are two visitors centers, one outside the park, that is shared by the National Park Service and Forest Service. The rarity means... More

This is an amazing drive, with a lot of places to stop and visit: The North Cascades Environmental Learning Center, the North Cascades Visitor Center, Diablo Lake, Ross Lake, and so many more. Take your camera and explore them all.

NCNP is a gem...a real gem and deserves a visit any time of year. We recently travelled to the park's Environmental Learning Center (ELC) and were thrilled to cross the Diablo Dam. What a sight! The Diablo reservoir provides water to those urbanites in Seattle. It's a wonderful component of the North Cascades jewel of a National Park. The ELC... More

This is an under rated and under visited park. Many nice stops to see great views and hikes. One reason it may be not as popular is that drivers go through on highway and if they don't stop at the visitors center, they are not counted. There are clear signs for places to stop and turn off but some advance... More

We did this drive as part of the Cascades Lake stopping frequently for pictures of the mountain lakes, cascading falls and mountains. Approaching from the west, we stopped at the Washington Pass overlook where we parked and walked along a ¼ pathway that offered sweeping views of the Methow Valley, Liberty Bell Peak and Early Winters Spires. Breathtaking! We continued... More
