This highway is a great way to see North Cascade National Park is you are not into hiking. There are many pullovers & overlooks that give great views. All you need is some time & gas to enjoy some great scenery.

Take this drive if you have the time. We started out at 10:00 in the morning and went as far as Mt. Washington. There are lots of stops along the way to see spectacular views. Highly recommend.

Following the North Cascades loop gives you some amazing stops (waterfalls, mountains, lakes, etc) and miles of beautiful scenery.

Pleasant drive to the area and enjoyed the Ross Lake damn crossing by car. We also stopped at the Gorge ladder falls power plant which was a great nature walk.

You can drive through the North Cascades National Park and you don't have to pay for it at all! Many overlooks along the way to stop by and take great pictures.

The scenery is awe inspiring and ranks with Denali and the Alps. Many hiking opportunities and back country experiences, which unfortunately we couldn't do, but a good choice for someone who wants to go where there are no crowds. Much of the time driving and...More

A beautiful scenic drive. The only way to truly appreciate the landscape is to get out of the car and explore on the various trails. If simply taking a scenic drive, I would strongly recommend stopping at Diablo Lake Overlook, Ross Lake Overlook (3.5 miles...More

For some reason North Cascades is one of the least visited national parks of the lower 48, which is a shame (although I didn't mind the lack of crowds when I was there!). Highway 20 runs right through the park and makes it easy to...More

And the visitors centre is pretty good too. I got terrific advice from the Ranger on where to stop and walk to get the best views on my drive though. Turquoise glacier fed lakes, fast moving rivers, soaring multi coloured spires, truly an amazing place!

I don't know for sure as we drove through, but I would believe that if you follow Route 20 (the Northern Cascades Highway) you will spot the towns where people are likely to stay. Also, will you want to stay to the west of... More

Following Route 20 (aka North Cascades Highway), which goes across the Cascades, the peak is at Sherman Pass (elev. 5,575 feet). If you're going to travel toward winter at all, you should check to make sure this route is... More

SR 20 is closed for most of the winter. Obviously, the exact dates can change from year to year. To get a good guess on when that is likely to be during a future time, there is a website which I am not allowed to post here... More
