Something I had never known existed ! Worth the short hike to see it all !! We joked about being in the fire pit from the movie Princess Bride... The islands are perfect for doing outdoor adventures, Glad we didn't miss this one !

Even though the volcano was "quiet"and no lava was flowing anywhere in the park, there was still steam coming from so many locations.

Now with Jagger Museum closed, this is as close to Halemaumau as you can get from the Volcano House side. Sulphur banks still profuse, and a nice parking area and short walk to the crater rim. Volcano House on your left, Jagger on your right...More

It is a really impressiv place. You see steam everywhere and you can smell the sulphur extremly. It is just a short trail. Everybody can go there easily.

This is a very nice hike that can be done as a full circle to and from the Volcano house. Those with breathing difficulties may want to stay away- the sulphur can be strong. The heated steam was interesting to observe... hot steam literally flowing...More
