Aloha everyone, OK, so maybe Mauna Loa summit by way of the Mauna Loa Trail isn't on everyone's "bucket-list", but it was on mine... so, after several months of careful planning, a good safety plan, and a last check of the forecast, off I went....More

My husband and I wanted to see active lava hitting ocean and creating new land. The whole creation aspect was very exciting! We were staying on the Kona Airport side of the island so it was a 3 hour drive to the park. $20 to...More

Unbelievable landscape with crazy formations. It's like a desert but with black lava. Reasonable prices for t-shirts in the shop: $19.95

My wife and I stopped here Sunday afternoon. We didn't bring clothes to do Mona Loa. We will go back. It is $25 to enter park and that ticket is good for a week.

We went to the Volcano National Park in November 2018 but because of the recent lava flows and volcanic activity we found that a large proportion of the park was out of bounds to visitors which was a real shame - I blame America's litigious...More

It was an amazing experience. To see the force of nature. It cost 25$ per car and the ticket is valid for 7 days. We were there for 2 days. I would suggest to start with the visitor center. The park rangers were so nice...More

We hired a former park ranger as our day-guide and highly recommend having someone so knowledgeable aid your experience. History, geology, botany, all the sciences were covered, plus exceptional stories and cultural significance interlaced with the physical environment. A wonderful park made exceptional by our...More

This is a must see place while visiting the Big Island. It has changed a bit since summer of 2018 due to this years volcanic activity. This time the lava tubes were not open due to seismic activity, but when open, it is an awesome...More

The National park has a great visitor centre with lots of different trails and volunteer talks for visitors. The crater rim road and Jagger museum are closed since the latest cave in of the crater. But the line of craters road to the sea is...More

Although the park has just recently reopened it was really great visit. Take a look at the caldera from the volcano house and then go and look at the vents. The power of nature is so palpable.

Resist the urge to drive to a few overlooks and move on. Spend the better part of a day there. One suggested itinerary is to hit the Visitor’s Center just past the entry on the right ( no more than a 1/2 hour), then drive...More

I've been here twice and it was two very different experiences. This is an always changing environment, so you need to take what you get. With that said, right now they are doing a free walking tour with a park ranger that was very informative....More

No there are no boats as of now. The security agencies have banned the Lava viewing. As the situation is dangerous. It will open up once the eruptions are in control.
