We were able to walk down a long path and walk through the Nahuku lava tube. Beautiful, but bring a flashlight and proper shoes as it is a good hike and uneven walkway. They we're fixing the lights for future guests while we were there....More

We took a short hike to see the lava tube. There were people of all ages. It was nicely lit. We loved the "fern gully" plants around the area.

Steep walk down to the tube but has stairs and a handrail. Way up in more spread out and not as steep. Lights are out so bring a flahlight or use your phone. Great visit. Not a long walk in the tube and it is...More

This was a very cool site. Short walk but it does have inclines and declines that some people may find difficult. Mostly flat.

Great to see but probably rather difficult access for elderly/disabled visitors. Very pretty access walk in the forest ( its only a short stroll really ! ) leading to steps down to tube . Lighting was partly out during our visit which was annoying- best...More

I was last here back in the early 60's, when I was a little girl, but I remember this tunnel being much longer. We were able to go much further in in those days. Wish we still were able. It was nice to get back...More

Awesome little stop. You have to bring a flashlight to see and I'd recommend good shoes, just so you don't bang your foot on something in the dark. The only downside is it is very busy, and the entrance gets clogged up by tour groups...More

The Thurston Lava tube is a tunnel made from lava flow. It is an interesting short walk (can be done in about 25 minutes). The tunnel can get quite dark, so a flashlight is highly recommended.

The Thurston Lava Tubes are easy to get to. There is parking very close by. I suggest you arrive early in the morning before the tour buses arrive. You will have the whole place to yourself. I also suggest you bring a headlamp or flashlight....More

The tube is real close to Kilauea and the kava flies down to the ocean. You should see Kilauea during day and night.
