First time on 02/24/17- agree with the moderate rating. Less than ten areas where the path was beyond a normal step height, requiring some reaching. One description I had read was you feel like you're walking on the spine of the Appalachian Mountains – there was one very short span that had views on both sides. Near the summit there... More

This was an easy little hike with some worthy views at the bunion. I trek a lot and noticed some people struggle with the uphill at the beginning though. Great photo ops if you're brave enough to get on the rock. We got lucky with the weather in October and stayed overnight at the nearby shelter. Make sure you sort... More

This is one of my favorite day hikes in the Smokies. It's a very popular hike and for good reason. The views from the top are amazing! Great for pictures and sweeping views of the mountains. Starting from the Newfound Gap parking area, it's about 8 miles round trip. It took my wife and I about 4 hours total. 2... More

It's the most challenging trail for me to hike. It took 8 miles (round trip). The path was difficult at first then it became moderate. Finally when you reach the top, you will get the great view.

We wore hiking boots and brought hiking sticks which helped our feet a lot!!! We took a lot of pictures from the top of the rocks, and I got a bit daring taking photos from the 2nd set of rocks which is a bit dangerous with the drop off below. The trail is strenuous at times but a great workout... More

This is a nice hike of moderately-strenuous intensity with a fabulous view when you get there. You can continue onward a ways back to the AT if you wish as well, and there are more overlooks further on. It's not a "crazy" hike in terms of intensity and is a great "dayhike" thing. Do be prepared for crowds however, even... More

wonderful hike, not too long in distance, excellent views- go early to beat all the traffic on the trail.

Not much to add about this hike other than to suggest folks be sure not to just hike to the bunion and head straight back. The trail extends around the front of the bunion overlook back to the appalachian trail...and there are a couple of well used man ways on that short section of the AT that go to overlooks... More

We really enjoyed the hike to Charlies Bunion. We started right as the sun was coming up, so we could hopefully avoid the crowd, and it worked. We didn't see hardly anyone until are way back down. Great view from Charlies Bunion and just a really nice hike.

The park ranger recommended this hike as it was a nice distance (8 miles) for a day hike, and offers a beautiful panoramic view at Charlies Bunion. I really enjoyed the fact that the hike is on part of the Appalachian Trail. It was fun to talk with some of the hikers on the Trail that were going the full... More
