Since I hiked Ramsey Cascades the previous day, this "hike" was much easier but very steep. I didn't stop on the way up but many did. I think it was helpful that I wore hiking boots but it wasn't necessary as the path is paved....More

In all directions. Well worth the short, moderately steep hike. The hike is on a paved trail and is just over a half mile each way. It is a bit of a workout but fairly easy if you don't overdo it. And the views from...More

One of the best views of the Smokies hands down! I loved it here, and can't wait to go again this upcoming fall season!

This is a great walk uphill. My iPhone said it was 25 stories. Anyhoo, the view at the top is worth the walk. If you’re near, stop by and workout your heart.

We took this half-mile paved trail up to the top. It’s pretty steep and we had to stop several times... there are benches along the way to rest and catch your breath. The path crosses the Appalachian Trail, which was a neat photo op. The...More

Made this a stop on out way back from east coast. Very worth while. The walk is challenging but so worth it. The view from Clingmans dome is spectacular. Nice little gift shop for the souvenir fridge magnet.

We were with a senior bus trip on a very foggy day, having a tour thru the National forest and never made it to Clingmans Dome. But if the scene up there was as awesome as the trip on the roads thru the forest I...More

The drive from Cherokee to Clingmans Dome was quite scenic. Saw turkeys, a black bear and an elk. The view at the top was fog. The walk up was a paved, very steep 1/2 mile trek. Well worth the trip.

The family and I went up to the watch tower at Clingmans Dome. And boy was it amazing. Word of advice, don’t take a stroller. It’s near impossible to control it coming down. But, nonetheless, it was amazing. If you have free time, check it...More

Clingman's Dome is 7 miles off the national forest road. It offers an amazing view and is definitely a photo opp! We were riding motorcycles, so it's a great place to take a break and enjoy the scenery that the Great Smoking Mountains has to...More

Clingmans Dome is about a 45 minute drive from Gatlinburg. Plan on a very early start to find parking. Try to be there by 9 AM. The hike up to the observation tower will take about an hour. It is a steep hike and the air... More

Clingmans Dome is the name of the mountain. The road to the Clingmans Dome parking area is a bit curvy and there are some drop offs. I would think your husband's problem would be that road more than the .5 mile paved hike... More
