This is a beautiful winding drive through the mountains from the Townsend "y" to Sugarlands Visitor Center. Love to hear the river on the western end of the drive. We were in a rented convertible this trip and that made it even more fun. There are pullouts every so often to just enjoy the river and mountains. Also, many places... More

We try to enter Gatlinburg, which is alive and well, using this road on every trip to the Smokies! Its western (Cades Cove) end winds and twists along the base of the mountain and parallels the river most of the way. There are many pull-offs including the sink-holes. We enjoy turning off the music, putting our windows down, opening the... More

We took this route to The Sinks Falls and to get some pictures of the white caps in the streams . There are a lot of pull offs spots to take pictures and you will see some fly fishing going on too !! We saw a few wild turkey's early this morning and lots of butterflies on our way .... More

I have to agree with the last review. the traffic on the Parkway with the construction is nuts! We visited the Sugarland's Visitor Center first, We than took a nice drive be it a bit curvy and at one point got our 7 year old sick. The views are fantastic and we observed many kayakers on the river braving the... More

This has always been a scenic drive, but now it is also a scenic shortcut between Townsend and Gatlinburg. We tried to take the usual parkway route between Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge and wound up in a massive traffic jam. It took 45 minutes for what is normally about a five to ten minute drive due to road maintenance from... More

Even in our big F-350 Ford we had no problem with the road. Plenty of places to pull over and take fantastic pictures of the river. Speed limits run from 25 to 35.

Give youself time for this route. Can't go fast - turns too tight ans natural beauty to good to miss. Many small water falls. There are places to pull over and enjoy the water or fish.

A lovely drive that after dropping down from the Laurel Falls Parking area that follows the course of Little River form Elkmont to the Wye just outside of Townsend... a couple of nice features along the way include the Sinks and Metcalf Bottoms Picnic area, which is an especially nice gentle prortion of stream which is good for younger kids... This road goes mostly along a beautiful mountain river. The foliage was beautiful in early November. There is a nice hike to Laurel Falls. We did it a few years ago, but not this time. If you are a photographer, you might be disappointed with pictures of the falls because people wade in front of the falls and stand on... More
