Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a must see activity while visiting the North Rim. Park and first check out the views from the wedding site. Then walk out the trail and see Angels Window. Finally head out the short paved trail to see some great views from Cape Royal. Great vista to the east, south and west.

The Cape Royal trail is one of the top things to do at the Grand Canyon North Rim. The trail provides beautiful views of the Canyon and I believe is the only place on the North Rim where the Colorado River can be seen. Also you must do the short side trail to Angel's Window. Angel's Window is a lookout that juts out into the Canyon but it has a hole that has developed from years of erosion, hence the name. The trail is short and easy and I would recommend it for all ability levels. There are also informational signs along the trail about the various flora and fauna.

A short flat and paved trail where you can take in even more spectacular views of The Grand Canyon and the Colorada River. Angels Window is pretty fantastic and you can walk on top of it for even better breaktaking views! A must!

This is a nice, short & easy trail that provides great views of the Grand Canyon's only arch, of the Colorado River, of the South Rim, and of mountains in three directions. Good signs teach about the plants and some animals. Parking area has a picnic spot (small) and pit toilets. If you get there early, you'll have it to yourself and the silent splendor of the canyon can speak for itself.

However, after about 9 a.m. the large parking lot was full and there were so many people that I'd imagine it would be hard to really enjoy the view, let alone sit and take it in. How can you look for the perfect picture or watch the light change on the canyon walls if you are jockeying for space at the rail?

The vast majority of people that visit the North Rim (which is still only 10% of Grand Canyon visitors), don't take the time to make the drive all the way up to Cape Royal - and boy are they missing out! We headed that way decently early one morning, and although it is almost a 45-minute drive from the lodge, it was definitely worth it. It's about a 0.6-mile round-trip hike, but is basically all flat and easily doable by anyone. The views to the east from the final viewpoint are incredible, and we had the trail to ourselves. So much better than fighting the masses at Bright Angel Point!

The cape royal trail is the last viewpoint along the wlhalla plateau on the north rim grand canyon. From the lodge travel up the 2 lane cape royal road. When you reach the fork , take a right . There are several fine viewpoints along the 11 mile paved road to its end. There is ample parking and mostly not crowded.
Informative signs on natural history are found along this half mile round trip walkway. At 7,685 ft elevation there are sweeping views of wontons throne, vishnu temple, freya castle, and horsehoe masa with the colorado river. It also has an off shoot on angles window.

Clean restrooms are available at the parking area. I would allow an hour to tour the viewpoint and take pictures. It will take you 45 min to get here from the lodge without stopping. There are no services along this road so i would pack a lunch or get one at the deli before leaving.

This is probably my all time favorite spot along the North Rim. Park in the ample Cape Royal lot, (where the restroom is) and walk back in. From the parking lot, it's a half-mile walk on a paved trail to Angel's Window, where you can walk out over the arch itself on a sandy path, to the guard rail-protected viewpoint. Please respect the parking lot and the trail.
Also be watchful for summer pop-up thunderstorms, which may contain heavy cold rain, lightening, and hail. They can appear suddenly and without warning at almost any time and when you stand above the arch, you are completely exposed to these. This is dangerous.
You can also take the trail to Cape Royal and experience the 360-degree viewpoint at the end.
Well worth the walk, which is for almost everyone.
The North Rim is closed to vehicles from October to May.

Cape Royal is considered one of the "Grand Slam Viewpoints" in the GCNP along with Bright Angel Point, Point Sublime and Toroweap. The drive might look a little long when looking at the map but it is not to be missed! I have wanted to visit for some time and finally did it. I thoroughly enjoy photography and Cape Royal is not to be missed! If you are into photography as well... shooting Angel's Window is best done at sunrise. The other view at Cape Royal, the one at the end of the trail looking off to the southwest is best done at sunset. I ended up spending the night out there to get the sunrise shot. The sunset shots were only ok due to the prescribed burn that was being done. I never quite get things right with my photography the first time. I look forward to a return trip. I was there the last week of October, right before the North Rim closes for the season.

A one mile hike on a paved path. Lots of views including the Angel's Window. A bit of a drive to get there so not as busy as some trails

This "easy" trail is the reward after a relatively "long" drive on Cape Royal road. So if you have decided to drive all the way here, spend some time to enjoy the fantastic view on both Cape Royal and Angels Window. It's also a good place to identify those significant landmarks (such as, Vishnu Temple) from this vista. Enjoy!
