Enjoyed even more great views, but the walkways were not quite adequate for the volume of tourists there. Once able to get close to the actual viewpoint the views were spectacular. A reasonable walk from the parking area, was worth it for the scenery

We watched the sunrise from this point on July 5th. I had originally planned to take a shuttle to yaki point because it's supposed to be less crowded but I got nervous about timing the shuttle. A GCNP employee suggested this spot because it's accessible...More

We visited this area twice. Once during the day (crowded, hard to get pictures of family members with the canyon in the background because there were visitors hogging up all the worthwhile spaces and not really moving along or allowing others opportunities) and once at...More

Mather Point is a great location to view the sunset, especially if there is a full moon, which rises over the canyon rim on the opposite side where the sun is setting. Fantastic view.

This was certainly a nice view but because of its location near the Visitors Center, it was quite crowded and a lot of the visitors were somewhat pushy. We did not experience this at any other location that we visited on the South Rim. Sugggest...More

I think this was the busiest point. Once you began walking the rim there weren't many people. This point has beautiful views.

We only had 2 hours at the park and the ranger suggested the Mather Point. It is conveniently located at the visitor center. Plan on walking a lot and the sun is hot.

The view from here is the best if you’re wanting a panoramic view of the canyon. It’s really crowded here, but if you are patient, you’ll get a great photo.

Great experience, very different than further down, still very nice view of the canynon. Birds were soaring at this spot, lovely to watch.

There is a parking at the grand canyon visitor center already and it is free. Have you checked that already?

Suzi, that all depends on what you want out of your experience. My parents would drive by the sign to say they had been to a place but never truly experienced it, and there are a small handful of vistas to help you see the... More

You have a couple of options. If you are just driving through East to West, it would be best to come in through Cameron (off Hwy 89) there are several view points (and I consider some of these to be some of the best). When... More
