A supremely beautiful and rewarding day hike.

We hiked the tanner trail to the 75 mile saddle. It's not nearly as difficult as we thought it would be. We are in our 40s and 50s and in average shape. We took our time and took... read more

We hiked the tanner trail to the 75 mile saddle. It's not nearly as difficult as we thought it would be. We are in our 40s and 50s and in average shape. We took our time and took lots of pictures. It's important that you rest. Besides it gives you more time to enjoy it. We left at 9:30 and... More

Three friends and I hiked the Tanner Trail as part of a 6 night backcountry backpacking trip in late October. I wanted to hike the Tanner Trail as a more advanced trail than what I had previously hiked in the Grand Canyon, those being the S. Kaibab, N. Kaibab, Bright Angel, Hermit, and a portion of the Tonto trails. From... More

My friend and I did this trail as a day hike in early October, 2014. I am mid-30s she is mid-40s and we're in decent shape but not great shape. We brought 2 liters of water and a backpack each with snacks and photography equipment. The trail starts off the road prior to driving in to the parking lot. While... More

I emphasize the difficulty of the trail first and foremost because I saw a handful of people on the trail who had no business being on the trail. It was tremendously beautiful, like all the trails in the canyon, but if you're not in excellent shape, accustomed to hiking in the heat, comfortable with heights, and willing to endure a... More

Do not attempt this trail at night, even with a light - it can cost you a life. Very steep, marked DD on maps, meaning "expert". Enjoyed the hidden views from the Escalante Butte.

This was my second backbacking trip. I will say first off, take plenty of water and if spending the night invest in a water filter to pump water. We did, as we also cook. Second, I can walk for days, but I do not like to carry anything. So backpacking is a challenge. My partners are quite experienced and are... More

I can’t believe there’s only one review of this great trail in TripAdvisor! This trail starts about 100 m south from the Lipan Point parking lot and goes down to the river. You can leave your car at Lipan Point. I walked about halfway down the Tanner trail in March 2012, a total of 6 km down the canyon and... More

This trail drops from Lipan Point down to the river. It is very difficult as it drops 5,000 feet and is poorly , or in most cases, not marked. If you get off the trail it is extremely easy to get lost and end up on a cliff or to an impossible area. . If you go in the summer... More
