Arrived at east entrance gate as it was starting to rain. Absolutely beautiful to see the canyon on the rain. The monsoon season brings afternoon rain somewhere - not long but the sky is gorgeous and the colors are more vibrant. This drive was beautiful...More

Have not spent much time on the East rim drive in the past. With a week to spend at the canyon we had the time. The views were awesome. The views of the river were great. The drive opened up so much more of the...More

We drove the East Rim scenic road because it's the only option during peak season because the South Rim won't allow private vehicles, you have to park at the visitor center and take the shuttle. We like having our own car, and the East Rim...More

In the South entrance out the East I say. SO much more of a peaceful way to enjoy and see the canyon. With many turn outs to park and get different views, picnic spots plus get away from the crowds it's a SUPER great way...More

This was a wonderful drive. Saw very few other vehicles. Be prepared for lots of dust on the back of your vehicle, something we don't mind. Great views - ones not usually seen in video or photographs.

We got some great advice to enter Grand Canyon Park from the East Rim entrance. We entered near Desert View and got our first look at the canyon at the Desert View Watchtower. This stop was a lot less crowded than Mather Point and we...More

No matter how many times we have taken this road we always find something new to see. Sunrise is incredible across the mesa leading into the canyon.

Nice drive from east entrance to the Visitors center. Lot's of lookout places, not so crowded than village or mather point or Hermits Nest road. You even might see some wildlife.

This was low on my list. But it was fantastic. You can hop out of your car & see a different view at each point. This is where we saw the Colorado river the most. I'd recommend this for your first viewing, not mather point

Start from the east rim if you're able. It allows you to really see the Colorado River and appreciate the canyon without crowds. They views are heart stopping as they are wild and raw and real. No pictures can prepare you for this experience.

I stayed in Flagstaff and drove route 89 north then turned off on to route 64 east to do the east rim drive. It looks like if you take route 89 south from Page you turn off on to route 64 east to do the east rim drive. I'm... More

I'd give yourself at least two hours minimum and that's not spending much time at any one location. Desert View alone can consume an hour easily. The traffic in summer can be obnoxious due to the hordes of campers and... More
