Word of mouth has that the more remote, harder to get to and therefore less crowded North Rim offers a more authentic Canyon experience and better views. However, there is no bus service on this rim and it is closed during the winter.

I've been to the South Rim at least 8 times, and to the North Rim twice. The drive to the North Rim is honesty much more scenic, and you do get a taste of the Canyon from here. Lodging and food are great, as are...More

North rim is all about the view. No such activities as there are at the south rim. Basically one view on the north while there are many more on the south. A little less crowded ... but everyone on the north rim going to the...More

I've never been into the canyon but I have been to various top locations at the Grand Canyon at least three or four times and I found the North Rim to definitely be the prettiest even though it is probably the smallest area. The paths...More

We did the South Rim some years ago, and we thought the North was better. For one the crowds are but a fraction of that on the other side. Also we thought that the sights were more beautiful and stunning. If one doesn't wish to...More

This is a beautiful place to visit. The landscape has no comparison. It’s relaxing and peaceful. You can relax and look at the landscape for hours. Parking lot is easy to find. Also, there are lots of little shops.

It is just a giant hole. Yeah that would be the understatement of the next 3 million years. The Grand Canyon is just an amazing sight to see. The North Rim area had far less tourists then the south rim and had some unique amazing...More

It's hard to imagine how big the Grand Canyon is until you see it in person. No photo or video can really do it justice so if you get a chance, I'd recommend seeing it with you own eyes :) Tip: We got there are...More

In late May, I am going to the North Rim with my 10 yr old and with my Mom who has some cardiac issues (atrial fib...but otherwise healthy, walks well but gets short of breath), so we will not be hiking. We will be driving up from Sedona, arriving around 130 PM. I currently have 2 reservations and need to decide which to cancel: 1) in Marble Canyon at Cliff Dweller Lodge, a 2 hr drive away: this would mean leaving the North Rim between 5-530 PM to drive there to spend the night. (Lodging sounds more comfortable than option 2) 2) motel room at Grand Canyon Lodge, will be quite cramped for the 3 of us (queen & rollaway with no floor space), but we could stay until the next AM after breakfast, watch the sunset, etc. **is 3.5-4 hrs enough time to eat lunch at the lodge, drive the scenic drives and take photos at the view points? My son and I will do a couple of short walks to scenic points while my Mom rests in the car, at the lodge, etc. Or is it worth the cramped conditions because we need more time? Thank you!

In my opinion, you could drive to North Rim and eat at the lodge and see the viewpoints near the lodge, but it may not be enough time to drive to Cape Royal and Point Imperial unless you really hustle. It's a lot of driving... More
