If you have been at Glacier Park for the week, hiked the marquee trails, and experienced all there is to see and do on Going-To-The-Sun Road – you might be in need of some rest and relaxation. Bowman Lake is a relaxed, relatively uncrowded, and...More

Bowman Lake is gorgeous but it, like Kintla Lake with its even WORSE road nearby, is reached by a narrow and dreadfully maintained dirt track of more or less one lane. You will be out of range for your cell phone and a long way...More

As other reviewers have said, this is quite a drive on a mostly, dirt (or muddy like when we went), narrow, winding road. Average speed maybe 20mph. The lake is very beautiful though and we hiked along the lake trail for a few miles. We...More

The road to this lake is crazy to drive. Make sure your car is in good shape. This lake is a very nice lake. I wish we could have spent more time at it.

If you can handle driving on dirt roads, narrow switchbacks, and have a tent or very small camper then try for this campground. Limited sites so get there early on the weekend or in the July/August. Several trails lead into the mountains, one leads along...More

I have spent lots of time in Glacier National Park. This was my first trip to the NW corner of the park. It is now my favorite part of the park. The only issue is people drive to fast on the 1-1/2 car width road....More

The campground is next to clear, frigid lakes, around which it's fun to hike. I swam in one of the lakes; it was incredibly cold, but I could see the my feet in depths past my shoulders. However, there are no glaciers or ice bergs...More

The western side of Glacier National Park is the least visited area of the park. The road into Bowman Lake is a gravel 6 mile road that will stop many visitors from seeing the lake. At the end of the road is a campground, picnic...More

A beautiful lake at the end of a gravel road and definitely worth the drive to visit and relax. The 11 mile (round trip) hike to the lookout was somewhat of a challenge for the non-teenagers, but awesome views at the top! Would definitely recommend...More

Glacier was very busy when we visited, so we followed some good advice and made the drive up to Bowman Lake. The road to the lake was like any one-lane gravel road, with a few more bumps, but was definitely, easily do-able in any vehicle....More

Hello. I will be in Glacier Park this summer and would like to return to Bowman Lake after my first visit 25 years ago. I own a 2012 Toyota Tacoma, however it is not a 4 X 4. Will I be able to make it to Bowman Lake and back to Pole Bridge in it? Thank you.

Can we park overnight at Bowman as base for backcountry hiking?

I think you can with a permit. When we were there, several overnight campers were there and parked. They had windshield permits though. We were just there for the day.
