So glad we elected to talk the Natural Entrance into the cavern. While the walk is strenuous - 800' drop in a mile with many switchbacks - it's something not to rush through or to miss. Hard to imagine what the original explorers thought upon...More

What an amazing place. Everyone should see this! Go down by foot, half an houer walk, and back 500 feet in the elevator!

These caverns are out in the middle of absolutely no where, but worth the trip to visit, 2 1/2 hours from El Paso and about 3 1/2 hours from Las Cruces across White Sands. Be sure to check to see if the elevators are working....More

Was concerned about walking down cavern natural entrance. We are in our mid 70's but in decent condition. The walk is a little strenuous in knees but very doable if you are in decent shape. Anybody with mobility issues should avoid and take elevator. Takes...More

The last time I was here was 1979. I kind of remembered it but it was still overwhelming how vast and impressive this place really is. It is definitely worth the LONG drive from anywhere (for us, Albuquerque). We got to the cave early (8:30)...More

It was my first time and didn't know what to expect. I already knew the elevator was down. The experience was amazing! Temperature is in the 50's all the time. Path can get steep some of the time, but overall worth it. If elevator is...More

Please be aware that the elevator in and out of the Caverns has been breaking down frequently over pat year. It's over 50 years old, and they are doing extensive work to repair it. We hiked in and out of the Caverns with a five...More

My wife always humors me and my fascination with caves! I had never been here before, so she went with me. All of the tours were sold out, so off we went on our own. We were there early and hiked in the natural entrance,...More

I went here when I was maybe 15 and it struck me in awe. I've wanted to take my family here since before I had a family of my own to take. As it got close, I was worried that it wouldn't live up to...More

I'm not sure if you're asking about the volume of people who visit on a Sunday or not, but that's what I'm assuming. All I know is right now is their off season and the number of people who visit are just a fraction of the... More
Is there an elevator to take you back to the top? Last year it was broken but later the Obamas visited and I bet it was fixed by then. We can do the descent but it's the return I am concerned about. Thanks.

The elevator was working when I was there in Oct. Most visitors walk the one mile or so trail down into the caverns and take the elevator out. However, if you have knee (or joint) issues, you can take the elevator down to... More
