Rather than taking the elevator down to the caverns, take a gander down the natural entrance - it'll give you some perspective on how deep and far you're traveling. It's awe inspiring to try to understand the sheer size of this place as well as...More

The last ticket to the caverns is sold @ 3:15 PM. The last elevator up from the caverns is @ 4:30 PM -- though another employee did say they try to round everyone up to head towards the elevator by that time. Admission was $12...More

Carlsbad Caverns National Park is unlike any place I have ever been. It is truly spectacular and pictures don’t even begin to do it justice. I have been in other caves before but the size of this cave system and the amazing formations found throughout...More

Yeah, they were out April 18th when we went. After reading other reviews over the years, they seem to go out regularly. Anyway - nice museum, 2 gift shops, modern bathrooms. A film! We've visited many caves over the years. This is the first one...More

We decided to stay an extra day in Carlsbad to devote a few hours to viewing the caverns. We'd seen pictures and heard about them for decades and since we were passing through on our Roadstertrip it was a natural. Boy were we surprised how...More

This place is fantastic. The Natural Entrance is a great hike down and we loved it. If you can not do the hike down there is an elevator and an easy walk to the big room. If you are fit enough do the hike and...More

I hiked many caverns before, but this one really stands out. It is really beautiful, it is well managed for easier access. Some tips: it is very steep hike, so when you go down, know that at some point you will be going back climbing...More

A wonder to behold, but have strong knees! The descent into the caverns is steep in areas and thus the climb back out. They intend to have the elevators working in May. We were too early for that. We girls made it half way, the...More

Visited the Sunday after Easter and it was a steep hike down to get to the cave below. Before going down, at the visitor's center, there is a mini museum with exhibits describing the history of the cave and it's wildlife, etc. There is also...More

It's hard to describe how big these chambers are. They're just huge. And trying to imagine the first explorers going into this cave with ropes and how far down it goes makes it all the more impressive. The natural entrance is worth the hike. I...More

When you take the natural entrance, you will get to the snack area within 1 mile to 1.5 miles. They offer cold sandwiches, drinks, and a few snacks. the food selection wasn't great. I would recommend eating upstairs.

I was there in the middle of summer. That question would be best posed to the fine folks that work there.
