The National Park Service has renovated and refurnished the Gifford farmhouse as a cultural demonstration site to interpret the early Mormon settlement of the Fruita valley. The house depicts the typical spartan nature of rural Utah farm homes of the early 1900's. In addition to the farmhouse, the Gifford homestead includes a barn, smokehouse, garden, pasture, and rock walls.

Old Mormon homestead, an oasis in the desert. Interesting history, orchards, nice hike along the river, and a great place to get pie or have a picnic! Special feature of this NP

Walked here after having a picnic lunch in a nearby meadow. Surprised by the smell of fresh baked cinnamon rolls and fruit pies. Our hardest decision was what to purchase for dessert. Area is very scenic with a stream running by.

The earlier in the day you stop the more flavors of pie will be available. They sell out by afternoon. Breads, cinnamon rolls and good coffee. Interesting items and pictures of the homestead and family when they were actually living and farming there.

We didn't eat here but just came to have a quick look. It is in the scenic drive route near the campgrounds. Nice setting and cute little place. Nothing special

We stopped by Fruita for a picnic after a short hike around Capitol Reef. This is a lovely little stop which showcases a homestead of early Utah settlers. We had heard about the little homemade pies and had to sample them. Absolutely delicious! Visiting Fruita...More
