The views are ok, but of all the trails and scenic overlooks you should skip this one. The end of the hike is all up slick rock and the views from the top are all only so so compared to what the park has to offer

Big smooth hump of a rock along the drive out to the Upheaval Dome. There was a couple standing on top, but we elected not to do any climbing up to the top.

This hike is tons of fun. It is short and easy so you can do it even if you aren't really into hiking, but the rock scrambling you can do makes it fun for more serious outdoors types. Most of the hike is over large boulders and it gets you up for excellent views of the Canyonlands. You will need... More

This is a short hike up an unusually smooth huge rock shaped like a whale with a knobble on the top which you can scramble up for an excellent view. Not worth going past the highest point, just turn around and come back

Easily access from the road if you want to visit it but just as good to look at from the pull in. One more great rock formation in Utah's set.

My wife and I hiked this trail on a Friday in early October 2016 on a swing through the big 5 Utah national parks. We had just finished a moderate hike and wanted something a bit easier to give us time to recover. This hike fit the bill perfectly. You climb up a bit of slickrock along the way, but... More

Very accessible hike for families with wonderful views. It seems that you hike the back of a whale for sure!

of course you must hike to the top, it is a very long way to the easy trail walking up along the spine of the whale, but my family chose the difficult route up the side. we visited in mid September 2014 and the weather was perfect for hiking.

Whale Rock is a nice little spot to continue to see the amazing geological formations of Canyonlands NP. Take your time and enjoy the views around this pullout and trail.
