About
Welcome to the Tamborine Mountain Glow Worm Tours! During our tours you will experience the results of our ground-breaking conservation project, as we guide you through our spectacular purpose-built cave, filled with thousands of glowing Glow Worms! We offer the only opportunity in Queensland to see Glow Worms during the day, and over the course of 30 minutes, you’ll meet a Glow Worm up close and learn all about their life cycle and behaviour. Our cave features a colony of native Mt. Tamborine Glow Worms, and is part of a long-term breeding program, so your admission helps support and ensure the survival of the species in South East Queensland for future generations!

- LouTe Kuiti, New Zealand3 contributionsGood information on glow worms, man made tunnel. It’s marketed as Glow Worm Caves. I did expect a natural cave; however it’s man made. As a caver that was a disappointment. If you want to learn about glow worms then it’s a good tour. More informative on that front than tours at Waitimo. Depends what you want out of it. Too short to bother with if you like caving, the tunnel must be 30m long?!Visited December 2022Travelled soloWritten 27 December 2022
- yazitravelsBordeaux, France415 contributionsA unique experienceArrived at 9am for a tour at 9:30. On the door written open from 10. Got a little worried that we fell in a tourist trap online but not at all. Different hours for holiday season. The comments read before are right, friendly staff, very informative. A little expensive for 30 mins (15 dollars would be better) but at least we spend a few minutes in the cave to see the glow worms. I highly recommend as you cannot find them elsewhere in the world! (Except Tasmania). You feel like you are looking at stars in the night sky.Visited January 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 January 2023
- AJ PatoKempsey, Australia659 contributionsAmazing creatures and venueWow found this place by accident. I’d say it’s a must see. Our kids have grown up but they would have loved seeing these amazing creatures. Make some time to enjoy the tour and the wine tasting after it.Visited January 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 31 January 2023
- rh0des52 contributionsIf you are in the area why not? What's not to love about glow worms!Enjoyed this experience. Felt the guide was a bit lack lustre..maybe having done the job too many times and no passion but was interesting. It is a quick tour which is ok but would not have minded maybe a few more minutes in the cave as these little creatures are just fascinating. I think it is worth while doing. Who does not like seeing glow worms? :)Visited November 2022Written 6 March 2023

Wonderful knowledgeable guide, Kane, was very engaging and interesting. The paths are smooth and easy to walk on. - AtlasmothIpswich, United Kingdom51 contributionsGlowwormsWe arrived early for our tour of the caves and spent an interesting 20 minutes talking to Cain (our tour guide) who was cleaning out the stick insects in the gift shop. Cain then lead us into the caves, where we watched a video about the glowworms. Afterwards we followed Cain into the main cave, which was very dark but twinkling with lights from the glowworms. It was a surreal experience and Cain gave us a very informative talk. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would like to thank him for making the tour so special.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 14 November 2023

What an experience have never seen glow worms before so close and the work that they do here is second to none. You are unable to take photos or video as this can hurt them and stop them from glowing.
Check out the frog hollow too as they are super cute 🥰

A quick, cheapish and easy way to see the famous glow worms in a more environmentally friendly way. It's a quick tour - probably less than 30 mins in total so pair with other activities on the mountain but certainly its a must do activity!

If you've seen a glow worm before, skip this place. We paid $23 which I can only regard as a "donation" to a possibly worthwhile conservation cause. The tour itself was very quick and the commentary was difficult to follow. Poor value for $23. Unimpressive cafe fare too!

The tour guide was very informative and knowledgeable and the experience was good. This was quite expensive for the amount of time we spent seeing the Glow worms.

Is it possible that the glow worm caves are accessible in a wheelchair?
Cedar Creek Estate Winery
Tamborine Mountain, Australia1 contribution
Unfortunately, we are not technically accessible. There are two small steps on the way down to the cave, and due to the nature of the cave the path is too narrow to be legally accessible. We do our best to accomodate visitors, so please get in touch if you are planning a visit so we can help describe the pathway.
What can hurt the worms because I have heard things like insect spray can also turn off thier glow. What should/ shouldn't I do around glow worms

Before you go into the Glow Worm caves the guide gives a very interesting talk on the glow worms and all the does and don't of what to do while you are in the cave.

Is the tour pram friendly?
PAISLEYBUDDIE16
Paisley, UK459 contributions
You can probably get a pram to the cave entrance and then inside to watch the video. However, the actual glow worm viewing platform is very narrow (single file) and in pitch darkness.
The tour itself is fairly short. So my advice would be to take it in turns and amuse your little one at the children’s play park just outside the caves. There is wine tasting, a gift shop, somewhere to get snacks and baby changing facilities there too.
It is a short but good tour. Unless there is a big group of you, then you don’t have to book in advance. Quite spectacular to see. Enjoy!
Can we go by ourselves without any tour guide? Is it changed the enterance rule?
The reason why I asked this question is that I had been there 10 years ago.
At that time, I went there around 6pm without any tour. Now, I want go there with my wife becoz we are in honeymoon.
Pls let me know if you went yourself recently.

Hello,
We only allow guided tours from 10 am to 4 pm. We have never allowed self- guided tours at Cedar Creek in order to protect our sensitive glowworms, so it is likely that on your previous visit you went to a different location which had glowworms. There are 3 sites with glowworms on Mt. Tambourine, but we are the only site with a captive population for conservation purposes. We would love to show you our glowworms during the daytime hours if you do decide to come by, and our tour guides can tell you all about the unique conservation project that we run at Cedar Creek.

Can we do a self guided visit to the caves? I'm not all that keen to pay someone to walk me through a cave.

Haii... I'm planning to come on July.
How is glow worm cave in winter? Is it affect the same all year ? How many persons is the max capacity of the tour? More than that we have to wait for the next tour? Can we book online for the exact time, so no need to wait long ?
Cedar Creek Estate Winery
Tamborine Mountain, Australia1 contribution
Hi Fransiska,
The glow worm cave is a controlled environment and therefore is not affected by the seasons. Tours take up to 20 people per tour and depart every half hour. To book a tour we require 10 or more people. You can call us and reserve a time slot but we will need you to be here 15 mins prior to ensure you go on this tour. I hope this has been of assistance and please contact to reserve time slot.
We are 4 adults plus a 7 month old is it safe to take a 7 month old ? How much time can we spend in the caves ?

it's totally safe. We watched a short video and spent about 30min in the cave. The guide was attentive and helpful, so not to worry. Not flash light though 😉

Hi, is this area wheelchair friendly and how much outdoor access - is it possible to access in wet weather
Shinead C
Nowra, Australia78 contributions
Hi, I don't think it is wheelchair friendly, especially not in the caves themselves as it's very dark and there isn't much space to manoeuvre. In terms of wet weather access, you'd definitely need an umbrella to walk between the visitor info centre and the caves where the tour happens. Hope this helps.
