Reaching the cave requires both climbing and descending, so I would recommend to wear comfortable shoes. Yet, the cave is worth the effort!

The visit into the cave was worth the uphill climb to the entrance. Many staligites and stalagmites.

Really interesting place to visit, up in the mountains with amazing views across the valley. Cave itself is spectacular, but there is a zig zag climb to get there which was really difficult in the intense heat. There are around 200 stairs down to the...More

On the way up a green snake slid across my path - an omen surely of almighty Zeus recognises a loyal hierophant returning home at last. It cost €6 (April 2017) to enter. We had the cave to ourselves as we went up at 4pm....More

This cave has a good story -- the birthplace of Zeus -- but that's about it. You arrive in a shabby car park surrounded by tourist traps, cafes and kiosks. There's a strenuous walk of about 600 metres up a steep path to the ticket office....More

We came there just to tick a box, as no other value in them. Quite small cave, 5 minutes to go down and up inside it. I do not recommend to eat in the cafes on the parking: poor quality and expensive.

You need a bit of stamina to climb up, and then down the stairs and back up again in the cavern. It is well worth it, because it's rare to see such a tavern with such easy access.

A long way up but a nice cave . not too big but nice to visit in this area. Here is where Zeus is said to have been born.

Whole point of getting a hire car, this kind of trip. Drove up to the plateau on a whim. Great drive doing an Italian job on a poor wee Hyundai hairdryer thing. iPhone maps via trip-advisor sent us nowhere, but we googled Diktaean cave and...More

We visited this cave on the final day of our ten day holiday. It's a nice drive up into the mountains and onto the Lasithi plateau. We noticed that it was quite a bit colder, windier and cloudier on the plateau than at sea level....More
