回向院からJRの高架下へ向かい、
手前右側にあります。
夜はほとんど人通りがありません。
静かな場所です。
首切り地蔵は刑死者の菩提を弔うために、
寛保元年（1741）に建てられたそうです。

こちらは南千住駅よりすぐの回向院を線路で挟んだ反対側にあります。
江戸時代に小塚原刑場で刑死した人たちの菩提を弔うために1741（寛保元）年に建立されたものだそうです。
結構大きく迫力があります。

江戸時代に刑場があった小塚原に建てられていた刑死者のための慰霊塔です。現在は回向院から分かれた延命寺の境内にあります。しかし、寺が分かれたのが昭和の後半だったにせよ、刑場に延命寺の名前はちょっと不釣り合いに感じますね。

ＪＲ南千住駅から徒歩約３～４分ぐらいのところにある浄土宗寺院の延命寺（山号豊国山）には首切り地蔵（延命地蔵尊）が祀られています。３メートルもある首切り地蔵です。また、隣にはお墓もあります。江戸時代の処刑場の近くにある、大きな地蔵様です。千住の小塚原刑場の死罪になった方を供養するために建立されているそうですが、名前だけですと、不気味ですが歴史を知るなら参拝を。

東京メトロ日比谷線の南千住南口を降り、そのまま真っ直ぐに行ったところ、いくつもの線路が交差する場所にあります。東日本大震災で被災しましたが、修復がなされていました。

ここは、ＪＲ南千住駅から徒歩約３～４分ぐらいのところにあります。まず、目に入るのが３メートルもある首切り地蔵です。また、隣にはお墓もあります。

江戸時代の処刑場の近くにある、大きな地蔵様です。その名の通り、死罪になった方を供養するために建立されたのでしょう。この前をさっと通っただけでしたが、不気味な感じでした。

世に名高い小塚原刑場後に建立された巨大なお地蔵様。
日比谷線から最初見たとき、独特のオーラに圧倒されました。
近づいて見上げると、これまた圧倒的な存在感。
歴史の重みですね。
