Neighbourhood: Shinjuku
Shinjuku is the commuting capital of Tokyo, and contains the busiest train station in the world. To the west, there's an office district with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office at its center. To the east, there’s a district with long-established department stores, cinemas and theaters. Shinjuku Gyoen is a park originally built as the garden for the Imperial Household. It is quite famous as a venue for cherry-blossom viewing in March and April. In Shinjuku, many restaurants operate all night, and districts such as Omoide Yokocho (Memory Lane) or Shinjuku Golden Machi have back streets filled with tiny restaurants and bars that reflect each owner’s unique taste and style.

Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Despite the fact that the Metropolitan Expressway is right next to the shrine precincts, and cars come and go frequently throughout the day, the shrine grounds are so quiet that one does not feel the bustle of the highway. Yoyogi Park and Meiji Shrine are just a stone's throw away, both of which attract many visitors on weekdays and holidays, but unless it is Hatsumode or a festival, few people visit this shrine, even on holidays. It's a hidden spot close to the city center.
However, the shrine grounds are not that large, and it does not take more than an hour just to walk around. The approach between the shrine's torii gate and the hall of worship is paved with cobblestones, but although there are other paths, not all of them are well maintained, and visitors should be aware that they can become muddy and slippery, especially on rainy days.
In 1950, the remains of a Jomon-era building were discovered in the precincts of the temple, and a reconstructed pit dwelling is on display. However, the restored dwelling is covered by a fence and is not accessible at all times.

The park is huge and a good walk. Explore through to the well and shrine and take part in the hand washing ritual. Good experience.

Yoyogi Hachimangu was a place I just happened to stumble upon while walking past it daily. When I finally went to visit, was definitely not disappointed. The atmosphere was really relaxing and homely with lots of surrounding nature, and the shrine buildings were quite exquisite themselves as well. The feel of the location was somewhat distinct from the other city shrines in Tokyo, which makes this a place worth visiting.

We were in the area and decided to check this out and it was rather different than the other shrines and monuments I guess because it is dedicated to the God of War. A guide would probably be necessary for this place as we didn’t get much out of it because it’s mostly in Japanese.

This is an interesting shrine, so for sure come here for a stamp in your shrine book. Fairly small, but interesting hoop you have to walk through to worship.

This Shrine is not only beautiful but very peaceful and quiet. It is set in a park like setting and has wide walk ways throughout. We went in the early afternoon and it was not to crowded. The park is very large and has several entrances. Would recommend this as a shrine to visit.

A very nice place to have a stroll. The park was well maintained and spacious, while the shrine is both impressive and active (there were weddings taking place when we visited). Well worth an hour or two of your time if the weather is nice.

Surrounded by a beautiful park and tree forest, this place is very peaceful and appears people go to pay their respects!
Watched a ceremony of some sort with drums and clapping, interesting place!
They have little wood pieces you can write on and leave under one of the trees!
