Neighbourhood: Shinjuku
Shinjuku is the commuting capital of Tokyo, and contains the busiest train station in the world. To the west, there's an office district with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office at its center. To the east, there’s a district with long-established department stores, cinemas and theaters. Shinjuku Gyoen is a park originally built as the garden for the Imperial Household. It is quite famous as a venue for cherry-blossom viewing in March and April. In Shinjuku, many restaurants operate all night, and districts such as Omoide Yokocho (Memory Lane) or Shinjuku Golden Machi have back streets filled with tiny restaurants and bars that reflect each owner’s unique taste and style.

- ontariomom870Toronto, Canada333 contributionsTime your visit to see smoke/lights/roar (top of the hour)A must see for any Godzilla fan. Head sits on top of building but is very visible and lights up, roars and expels smoke for about a minute at top of each hour. While there google Godzilla shop which is located within a tiny mall about 12 minutes walk from hereVisited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 17 March 2024
- John and Deb KKarratha, Australia820 contributionsFun to Look atProbably great for the children, it is a depiction of Godzilla. If you are staying at the hotel you can go up to the floor, or if you want to buy something from the cafe you can go up. Otherwise just a view from the street. Many people just taking photos from the street.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 31 March 2024
- msa23_2000Chino Hills, California1,505 contributionsIf you’re there - then stop and take a photo, but I wouldn’t make a special trip just for thisThe neighborhood is worth a visit. I walked by on my own and did not notice Godzilla. Then I returned walking through a tour and saw it. Made a great photo and made me smile. If you’re there be sure to look up, see it, and snap a photo. But if you’re not over in the Shinjuku area I wouldn’t go out of my way just for Godzilla.Visited May 2024Travelled soloWritten 12 May 2024

He’s beautiful, but on visiting him every night for a week, we never saw him growl or glow. We just watched him from the street, an didn’t go up to hotel bar to view. He is a great photo op…and meeting place…Visited May 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 18 June 2024
- CorradoCosenza, Italy1,107 contributionsUnbeatable! Mandatory selfie and TOP neighborhoodThe street or rather the whole neighborhood before arriving under the building in question teems (even too much) with locals, people and tourists. Just be careful if you all go boys at night because black guys urge you to enter clubs to literally make money! The Stage, however, is a must because you do not see such a thing every day! Symbol of Tokyo, recommended for selfie. Follow the other tips on my Tokyo/Osaka/Kioto reviews!Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 August 2024
- Deanosaur89Edmonton, Canada9,226 contributionsFun and Free Attraction in ShinjukuWe enjoyed seeing the Godzilla Head on top of the Shinjuku Toho Building. It is a funny attraction and we stopped to take a few photos. I was reading online that you can go up one of the buildings nearby to see the Godzilla Head up close but it was closed when we visited New Year's Eve. The statue remained lit up and visible though which we appreciated. The closest metro station is Shinjuku Station and we took exit B8 so we could see the 3D Cat Billboard that is close by as well. The street leading to the Godzilla Head has restaurants, shops and souvenir stalls and the street over has the Golden Gai bar area.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 1 September 2024
- Rik TFredericton, Canada1,484 contributionsVery CoolEvery hour, Godzilla attacks! Well, at least his eyes light up, blue lights flash, and smoke comes out of his mouth. If you stand on the pedestrian-ish street below him, you can get good photos or movies of the drama, and hear the music and sounds of the beast. There is a swanky lounge on the 8th floor of the Gracery Hotel, where Godzilla sits, and you can go up there and order very nice drinks and a Godzilla pancake that comes with a solid Godzilla figurine. A matcha, coffee, a piece of cheesecake, and a Godzilla pancake cost us ¥ 7502. It's a lot. I've heard the terrace is open sometimes and you may even be able to get inside Godzilla's head (har har) up there but that was closed when we went.Visited October 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 October 2024
- Princes of travelParis, France7,528 contributionsMythical monster headGodzilla, the best-known monster of Asian cinema, created in the 1950s in response to fears related to the two atomic bombings suffered by the peninsula, welcomes us from the top of this building in the heart of the Kabukicho district. The neighborhood is filled with brighter signs than each other, giving an ultra-trendy atmosphere. Recognizable from afar, his wide open mouth seems to want to grip us as we walk through the streets of Tokyo's hottest neighborhood. A must-see Tokyo must-see at night for even more realism.Visited November 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 December 2024
- Alexander T2 contributionsMassive size! The Godzilla Head was massive and impressive! I stayed at the hotel behind it, but access from the back was restricted, which was a bit inconvenient. However, seeing Godzilla from Kabukicho was absolutely spectacular. I even took some photos right in front of it!Visited October 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 3 December 2024

Coming back to Shinjuku during June I finally found the time to go see Godzilla. Our view unfortunately was just from the street level. I read that one could get up close by entering through Hotel Gracery and go up to the reception. Godzilla is just outside on the balcony.
However since we had to make sure we fell in line early at our sushi restaurant, we were not able to view the show (roars and smoke) which happens every hour from noon until 8pm.
Still a novel site to see in Shinjuku.

Overrated. People who like the overwhelming stimulus of hundreds of flashing electronic billboards, noise, and a Godzilla head in a loud crowded city area will love it. Picture Times Square on steroids.

Had I not been with someone, I would not have noticed this head popping out from above! Pretty cool. Your likely to visit the area, so have a look. Don't make a special trip unless your a fan! Located near the entrance of Shinjuku TOHO Building of Shinjuku, Kabukicho. I saw it in the day but I hear that it's better to see at night. Apparently it roars on the hour between noon and 20:00.

We were out in Shinjuku, navigating the crowds, actually looking for Golden Gai when we turned the corner and there he was hovering above us, Godzilla or Gojira as he is known in Japan. I I was just joking with my wife an hour before I heard Godzilla was somewhere around so it was fun to just run into him. We didn’t visit the hotel or anything but a fun landmark if you’re in the are, not something I would plan on as an activity.

Godzilla is located in an adult oriented area of Shinjukyu. On a periodic basis, you will hear loud noises and see smoke and lights coming from Godzilla's mouth. As a fan of Godzilla growing up this was a must see attraction for me during my Toyko visit.

I was looking forward to going to the terrace and eating in the cafe, but they are closed "for safety reasons" - boooooo hisssss.
Anyway, I'm glad I made the trip to see the head, its really cool looking from street level and a really unique thing. I hope the terrace is back open in the future.

I expected a bit more just based on my research on the Shinjuku area. I saw the Godzilla head many times and it was fun at first but I never really paid attention to it afterwards. It might be because Covid, but I never saw any show or anything. I guess I expected a bit more, it was just underwhelming. Either way, see it once if in the area, but it is not a must see.

This street is in Kabukicho.
Suddenly, I heard Godzilla's voice as I was walking down this path.
Looking up at what happened, I saw Godzilla's head over the building.
Maybe Godzilla's head appears regularly.
What a wonderful event!

Very nice hotel, great staff with exceptional customer service. I was there for New Years day and there was a performance in the lobby which was fabulous.
The only downside was that we couldn’t go outside and see Godzilla up close and personal, which was a little bit of a shame. Location was great, close to train stations shops, restaurants, bars. I would recommend
