Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Huaiyuan Tower is the most impressive tulou in the Yunshuiyao area. It is the typical circular tower in popular mind. The building is quite well-maintained and visitors can freely wander around the ground floor to peep the interior. Interestingly some residents are willing to bring tourists upstairs with a price.

We visited this tulou when staying in Yunshuiyao recently. It's easy to find, you just follow a well-walked cobbled path for about 600 m along the river from Yunshuiyao. As with the other tulou that are well-known, this one is well-preserved. It has a small temple in the middle of the ground floor. You can't climb to the higher floors and the ground floor is lined with small shops selling souvenirs and food. We were here about 11 am and it was starting to get quite crowded (even in winter) with lots of tour groups. It's worth a visit but what for me was more valuable was the opportunity to stay in the countryside and see how people lived. We enjoyed staying overnight in this village and seeing how the locals lived. I imagine these tulou get very busy when in holiday periods.

We have been around Tulou Hakka houses in Yongding and Nanjing county. We preferred Nanijing. This is very subjective as these house are all beautiful , historical and alike but there were some more authenticity in the villages and way of leaving of the people. We took two days to go around with a guide from Xiamen. Definitly worse the trip despite the three hour drive from Xiamen. We stayed in a (local) four star hotel (Hakka Earth Building Prince) that is among the most comfortable one we had in China.

Beautiful Hakka village, unique architecture. Must to see in china for every Chinese culture lovers. Many tourist visit the place. To get there take a tourist bus from Shuyang Tulou Tourist Center. Entrance fee to village is 100CYN.

This is one of the Fujian Tulou, Huai Yan Lou. The name of the place is to get its people to remember that their distant relative. The place is very beautiful, and is a more less known compared to tianluokeng tulou.
The place is beautiful, and quiet during non-peak period.
A good place to understand the history of the Fujian tulou.

Lovely and well-preserved.
Unfortunately the ground floor is now basically owned by vendors who sell souvenirs.
Old grannies come by and ask if you wanna pay RMB3-RMB5 for a tour of the upper floors, which are generally their own living quarters. Otherwise feel free to walk around the ground floor and courtyard.

I liked these tolou more than the Tianluokeng cluster. The winding stone path (don't wear heels like some were!), the mixture of wooden buildings and old rammed earth houses in various states of repair provide a nice lead in to this fine example of a tulou. It is even possible to stay in around the tolou town area, but unfortunately I can't help with details. I went on a week day so the crowd numbers were low. I saw many bus tours there, so that's probably the easiest for English speakers to get there.
