Somehow an element of this exquisite exposure reminded me of Mt Carmel's steps, as we paused to appreciate the handsome details of the carvings on the stone vases, cheeky putti and huge pots of lemons decorating the corner of the courtyard of honour. I sat for twenty minutes contemplating the monumental and ornamental architecture of the terraces inlaid with panels... More

This villa was mentioned in our guide book, but only with a few sentences. For us it was one of the hightlights of our visit to Lago Maggiore. It is a few kilometres from the lake. Took a Bus from Lunio to the villa, if you do it this way make sure you buy a return ticket as there is no apparent outlet for bus tickets near the villa. (in case you don't know on a lot of buses in this area you have to buy tickets before you get on the bus from the tobacconist.... More

The villa is really beautiful and the park is pleasant... Also, being a FAI property there are various events like the crocuses in bloom, the Christmas market... Check the Fai website if you plan to go! There is also a nice restaurant/caffeteria linked to it, and the entrance is free for members of the English National trust.
