Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We visited here for lunch on the recommendation of one of the cellar door sales staff of a nearby winery. The craft beers were not ‘run of the mill’ and displayed great depth of knowledge of the brewing process and flair. They were also good to drink! The lunch menu was well balanced and catered for all tastes. I will recommend this place to anyone visiting the Granite Belt for a meal and a few tasty beers.

We stopped in on a whim. About a dozen beers, ginger beer, alcoholic sarsaparilla and others to try. $5 for 200ml glass. Cafe was closed this day. Brewer was our host and there were locals which is a good sign.

Enjoyed some nice beers and the ginger beer is very good. The Sarsaparilla was disappointing. The bar is very comfortable except when 3 tour buses all roll in together. Didn't eat there but the pizza looked good.

Absolutely loved the Brass Monkey! Ernie is such a legend, great beer, cider and ginger beer. The Ginger beer, apple cider, Pilsner and kolsch were outstanding and would definitely go back!

The beers definitely lacked flavour which tasted more like a home brew beer. I ordered a hotdog which was over cooked and dangerously hot which burned my tongue. The venue needs music, atmosphere and friendly staff.

In September 2021 my wife and I enjoyed a very pleasant one week stay in the Granite Belt region of Queensland staying in the delightful Fergies Hill Spa Cottage, located in the Granite Ridge Winery at Ballandean.

Ballandean is 20 kilometres south, south west of Stanthorpe (the main town in the Granite Belt) and is 240 kilometres south –west of Brisbane, about a 3 hour’s drive away.

During the week we visited 12 wineries, all very enjoyable. By way of something different we also included on one of our touring days a visit to the Brass Monkey Brew House at Severnlea, 6.3 km south of Stanthorpe, to taste some locally made craft beers.

The Brass Monkey Brew House has created a broad variety of handcrafted boutique beers to suit all taste-buds and all the beers are brewed and bottled on site.

My wife who was driving chose not to taste the beers, but was happy for me to do so. Most of the beers on offer for tasting and purchasing are written up in chalk on overhead blackboards above the main counter and a tasting rack of three beers cost $15. However, this was fair value because the tasting samples of beer were very generous in quantity. My choice of three beers were the German style “Quart Pot Old”; “English Brown" - an English real ale described as big and malty and “ The Swagman’s Lager” – a well balanced lager made with 100% Aussie hops.

I really enjoyed the tasting experience and we purchased some beers to take home as a present for one of my sons and a friend as well as a couple of cans for me.

The retail area of the brew house is quite well appointed and has a number of tables and chairs and caters for coffees and a range of food as well. I chose to only partake of the beer tasting for our visit.

The owner who served me was friendly and knowledgeable and very helpful in helping me choose the beers I wanted to taste. This is in stark contrast to a number of previous reviewers who have not been quite as complimentary.

Overall we had a good experience and were pleased to be able to sample something different in the Granite Belt other than wines.

From our experience, we think it is well worth a visit to the Brass Monkey Brew House as part of a Granite Belt holiday.
