Easy approx. 1 mile walk downhill the rocky path to the lake. Lovely quiet spot and fantastic to swim (but not really safe for small kids or anyone who is not a reasonably strong swimmer. Very rocky and drops off to very deep after after about 4-10 feet from shoreline. worth a visit all the same

Stunning views in the whole area. The Lough is particularly pretty. Well worth a visit either by car, cycle or on foot via one of the walking trails.

I visited this lake recently as I hadn't been since I was a child. As an adult, I now appreciate its beauty. It is a tranquil, picturesque place that has an energy unusual to its surroundings. I have rediscovered a place that I will visit regularly to escape and unwind. Must see.

We spent a morning driving out to this natural site. The peace and beauty of this place is everything you would imagine Ireland to be. We also went to visit the abbey while there. So very peaceful it makes you feel like you are the only person on earth. A hidden gem.

The lake has several hiking trails surrounding it and we were lucky enough to catch the Rhododendrons in full bloom.

You can get to Bay Lough by Car or even on foot. To get there by car, follow signs to 'The Vee' You will eventually arrive at a very large public car park. The car park is unpaved but is perfectly safe and a great location from which to leave the car and explore on foot. From the car park... More

Fabulous views on drive up the vee. From the car park its a mile of a downhill walk on a rough terrain track to the lake. Have been here numerous times and may/june my favourite when the rhododendrons are in bloom. If you're feeling a little more energetic from the car park cross the road and walk up to the... More

Just a short walk down from the car park. Not a whole lot to see but worth it for the views especially when the Rhododendrons are in flower.

The Vee Pass & Bay Lough is the most beautiful place to visit any time of year but May/June to see the wonderful displays of Rhododendrons. There are lay-bys along the way and paths to the lake/mountains. Known locally as Petticoat Loose the history of why Bay Lough is so called is in this link www.clogheen.net/petticoat-loose

Visited Bay Lough and the Vee Mountain Pass at the end of April, on a foggy and chilly day, and it was still a wonderful little trip! We parked the car at lake's main parking lot and walked down to the lake and around it on a little stroll. The path is quite even and comfortable to walk on, only... More
