About
Ringer Reef is a small winery, vineyard and cellar door located in the Alpine Valleys region of Victoria. The property fronts the Great Alpine Road at the base of Mount Buffalo at Porepunkah, just 6kms from Bright in North East Victoria. A range of white, red and sparkling wines are hand made and bottled on site, from hand picked grapes grown on either our own or neighboring vineyards in Porepunkah. The owners Annie and Bruce Holm, a husband and wife team that are passionate about their wine and the area they live, are joined by their son Mark and his wife Julie to create Ringer Reef wines.

Fantastic afternoon spent on the beautiful lawns, listening to the live music provided by Ringer Reef themselves (local talent too!) whilst drinking their delicious sparkling rose. Weather was perfect for an afternoon in the shade of the trees while adults enjoyed the wine on offer and the kids ran and danced to the music. A must to attend. Oh and the view needs to be seen as cannot be described!

Ringer Reef Winery has a great location with views of Mt Buffalo and the valley through to Bright. They provide pleasant grazing platters at reasonable prices and wine 'flights' for wine tasting. Overall, a good place for a casual lunch with great views/.

I booked a 2-hour outdoor table for my wife and I, where we got to sit under a covered outdoor area overlooking the beautiful countryside. We did a wine tasting which is a must. Ringer Reef have a wonderful collection of wines, we particularly enjoyed the Sparklng Pinot Chardonnay, Montepulciano & the Sparkling Merlot. All had very different but pleasing flavours to wines we regularly drink. We purchased a bottle of each of the wines to share with friends and family, and enjoyed a glass of the Sparkling Merlot with the cheese board. The cheese board had a great selection of local produce and accompanied the wine well. One of the best wineries in the region, the staff were also attentive and lovely people. Ringer Reef is one of, if not the best winery in a region boasting many.

Waste of money! Very disappointed with what you should expect. We booked a picnic spot on the grass and paid $55 for a platter to enjoy, but when we got there it was absolutely packed we couldn’t sit anywhere. We took our platter home and I am shocked that this is even considered okay for the price (see photo). I don’t mind spending. Money for an experience, but this was a complete rip off! Don’t waste your time or money going here. There are MUCH better places around Bright to spend your time and money.

We had a wonderful day out at Ringer Reef Winery. We received extremely personalised service from the family team, even calling in reinforcements when it got busy. The wine tasting was amazing, family stories shared of planting vines and harvests, as we tasted some really interesting wines. So we settled in for lunch enjoying a bottle or two and an amazing platter of local fresh produce. A wonderful location with a great feel.

Came here after enjoying a bottle of their Chardonnay with high expectations. Left quite disappointed.
I have no problems being charged for a tasting fee which normal places waived when a purchase is made. Here we were charged a tasting fee each but only one fee was waived. Really. I kid you not. Only one was waived. I appreciate when providing tasting some will end up in the 'spittoon' and may appear as wastage which needs to be avoided. But all of the tastings provided struggled to be 2 teaspoons - barely enough to spin in the glass let alone taste.
Then to top things off the wine they are apparently 'renown' for was not available for tasting.
Staff was a sole person which may have contributed to the rushed feel.
Overall, not a place I will be return to as there are many other wineries offering way better service (and wine) in the area.

Hi gerryk615,
I'm so sorry that you didn't enjoy your visit to Ringer Reef. As a very small, family-run vineyard and winery, we do sell out of our wines each season. The loss of vintage due to the 2020 bushfires has compounded this and we are upset about our stock losses too.
With our tasting, we are selling an 'experience', it appears that yours was not ideal. I'd like to hear more about your visit, can you please forward the details to me at cellardoor@ringerreef.com.au so that I can ensure this doesn't happen again.
Regards,
Julie

Great little winery.
We had wine and a cheese platter on the deck.
Was a beautiful view of the mountains and watching the rain come in.
The wine was delicious and the cheese platters were full of local produce which was great value for money.

Nice wines and friendly and informative staff. After the tasting we had a very relaxed lunch on the covered verandah that overlooked the rolling hills. Beautiful spot! Grazing platters were just the right amount and type of food to enjoy with the wine and views.

A group of eight of us had a wine tasting followed by a platter lunch a couple of days ago. A fantastic experience. The tasting was interesting and Julie Holm was an excellent host who explained the wines in an expert and friendly manner. The platter lunch, accompanied by a great glass of nebbiolo was excellent and the surroundings amazing. Even if you do not like wine, it would be worth coming here to enjoy the amazing views.

We used to go to Bright regularly from Wollongong & ride our bikes on the rail trail. I found recently I still had a few bottles of 2004 sparkling merlot in our cellar which we purchased off Annie many years ago. We opened this amazing wine today to have with lunch & after many years in the bottle it was perfect. I’m guessing the crown seal which was a new innovation when I purchased this wine is the reason. Can’t wait to visit this vineyard again.

Thanks for the review, I didn't think that there'd be any 2004 Sparkling Merlot left in existence! You must be so much more patient than us ; ) We'd love to see you again and show you everything we've been up to since your last visit.
