Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I visited the Eternal Spring Shrine while on a day tour to Taroko Gorge. Like everywhere else here, this shrine and the surrounding landscape is just beautiful. I loved the tall mountains, greenery, and beautiful river that surrounds the shrine. The history of the area is interesting in regards to the creation of the highway. Our tour guide told us all about it but there are signs around the shrine area that mention the history behind the shrine.

The Eternal Spring Shrine is an attractive stopping point on Taroko Gorge tours. This is a temple built to honour those who died during the dangerous construction of the road along the gorge. It is accessed by another path cut into the side of the cliffs on the opposite side from a car park. It is built directly over a stream which cascades down into the gorge. The smell of incense pervades. Although it is well worth the short walk along the cliff path, actually the most dramatic view is viewing it from across the gorge.

This short trail of just 1.4 km crosses a suspension bridge entering a path with a cliff overhang before reaching the shrine dedicated to the memory of 226 people who lost their lives during the construction of the Central Cross-Island highway. The shrine is the third reincarnation after suffering damage during two earlier landslips. A water cascade passes under the shrine which has spectacular views of the river below. There is ample parking at the site for anyone self-driving where there are further photo opportunities to view the shrine across the valley.

Located on a part of the old road though the park this is a interesting shrine that is easy to access . The views are great but it is sobering to remember why it is there.

Parking for the shrine is alongside the road and is around a 15 min walk to reach to. The view is amazing and you can see the shrine from the parking area. There are bathrooms nearby so even if you don’t plan on visiting it’s a great pitstop.

This shrine commemorates soldiers who died during the construction of the roads in Taroko area. There are several Buddhist statues inside. The shrine is interestingly designed as the waterfall runs from the center of the shrine. This was the last spot for our Taroko day tour. After seeing magnificent views of rocks and rivers, this place may not be less impactful but still nice to see and especially learn the history.

This is a nice little end to the trip around Taroko national park, and it makes for some nice photos. Albeit if you don’t do the trail, it might not be worthwhile stopping here and getting off the bus, as you’re never sure when these will turn up. NB you can only do this sight on the inbound buses, I.e on your way back to Hualien, so plan accordingly.

Great place for a photo. Can reach the shine along a easy walkway in about 10 minutes. Large Buddha statues in rock cutout along the way

The Shrine is worth a visit even if just a quick stop. The short trek to the Shrine isn't very difficult or impressive, but the view of the waterfalls from the parking lot is unique. It's not often you'll see this kind of view. We didn't get a chance to go any higher or further, but I believe the path to the top was closed due to safety reasons..

The eternal spring shrine looks pretty far up with a waterfall. Very picturesque. There is a pulley to go up and a fairly long walk. We had no time so we didn't go up.
