The Songshan Ciyou Temple is right next to the Raohe Night Market. My main goal was to visit the market, but I saw this temple and could not just walk by it. This temple is huge and so decorative and colorful. I love how detailed the roofs and architecture are of the temples in Taipei and this was among my favorites. I saw both locals and tourists here, it was nice to see how respectful and quiet everyone was. You can take the green line to get close to the area. There are many other attractions and shopping markets in the area. Highly recommended!

I think could be my favorite temple. To be fair, I went at night and the lighting is beautiful. In addition, there were people chanting in ceremony while I was there, as well. However, the temple itself is covered in detailed ceramic reliefs and the view form the top is lovely. In addition, there is a very large night market right outside the front door. A great evening stop on the way back from the Shifin.

This temple wasn't on our to-do list at all, but on the last day of our stay in Taiwan the sky cleared up and we decided to get out and about. We stumbled across Ciyou temple and are glad we did, it was a great way to finish our day.
The temple is beautiful, with 6 levels to explore, all with a different theme and different deities to worship.
At the time we arrived a lovely lady behind the counter (where the paper for burning is stored) spotted us and took it upon herself to be our personal guide within the temple. She was an absolute wealth of information and made the experience all that much more meaningful.
The temple is well worth visiting, be sure to take the time to explore it all and see if someone can help explain some of the rituals and blessings to you, it's quite unique and interesting.

This temple is just a small but totally informative temple, with full of great memoirs in every corner. During our visit they are somewhat doing an offering for the dead where they place food and prayer items to invite the love ones for the rituals. Amazing to see they culture.

Ciyou Temple (慈祐宮) or the Songshan Mazu Temple (松山媽祖廟) was built in 1753 built by local residents during the Qing Dynasty era.
It’s very convenient to reach via the Green Line to the terminal station Songshan (松山). Take the exit 5 and the temple is right ahead. The Raohe Night market is right next to the temple and is a great 2 in 1 options to also visit the temple.
The temple is primarily dedicated to goddess Mazu (天上聖母) otherwise known as the “Heavenly Mother” and covers an area of over 600 square meters. It has six floors of shrines with over a hundred different Taoist and Buddhist deities with a library of Taoist, Buddhist and Chinese literature.
The following is a list of all the gods and goddesses within the temple by:
· 1st Floor (Main shrine) - Heavenly Mother, All-Seeing General, All-Hearing General
· 1st Floor (Side Rooms) - The Earth God, Ksitigarbha Buddha, Ananda, Maudgalyāyana , Five Directional Camp Generals, The Tiger General, Kaishan Spirit Tablets and Gongde Spirit Tablets
· 2nd Floor (Main shrine) - Doumu Goddess, 60 Dukes of Jupiter, Lord Zuo Fu & Lord You Bi protectors
· 2nd Floor (Health shrine) - Goddess of Childbirth, Twelve Nursing Goddesses, Du Yuniang Midwife
· 3rd Floor (Buddhist shrine) - Guanyin (Nanhai Guanyin and Thousand Armed Guanyin), Sudhanakumâra, Mañjuśrī, Samantabhadra, Skanda, Samghārāma, The Eighteen Arhats and Maitreya Buddha
· 4th Floor (Emperor Temple) - Guan Yu, Prince Guanping, General Zhou Cang, Lü Dongbin, The Kitchen God, Master Qingshui, Wenchang Emperor, Great Master Kui, Narcissus King, Doctor Baoyi, God King Guangze and The Five Battalion Commanders
· 5th Floor (Three Pure Ones Temple) - Three Pure Ones, Three Masters (Shakyamuni Buddha, Laozi, Confucius), The Great Emperor of the South Pole, The Great Emperor of the North Pole, Marshal Ma, Marshall Zhao, Mother Earth Goddess, Lord of the Sun, Lord of the Moon and Shennong Emperor
· 6th Floor (Roof Temple) - The Jade Emperor, Emperors of the Three Offices, Lord Emperor of Fire, Lord of the Little Dipper and Lord of the Big Dipper
While the open space on the first floor is quite beautiful from the upper floors you can get a bit closer to the shrines to enjoy the amazing craftsmanship that went into building the temple. The Jade Emperor’s shrine at the top floor gives everyone a great experience of the fantastic craftmanship, small details and amazing colours of the shrine.

I had no idea that there was this very magnificent and beautiful temple at the end of Raohe Street Night Market. And I'm glad we stumbled upon it. The walls, pillars, roof, ceiling, and the temple, as a whole, have such an intricate design. I was especially amazed at the rock / cement carvings.

Genuine working traditional Chinese temple. Plus it's right at the entrance to the Rahoe Street Night Market with its famous Pepper Cakes - well worth a visit.
