- There are multiple shops renting bicycles and electric vehicles before you reach brown road. Those nicer design vehicles are generally slow moving, you might want to check with the owners to compare the speed of different vehicles.
- Based on the placement of all the IG-worthy photo spot, it is better to visit in the morning. If you see the photos i have attached, the afternoon sun is behind me, therefore causing the photos to look darker.

Right outside the architecturally interesting train station in Chishang, you will find at least two bike rental shops. The first one, TR9, has the best but also the most expensive bikes.
We rented regular bikes, while the Taiwanese primarily chose electric bikes with four wheels, four comfortable seats, and a 'roof' against the sun.
Don't worry about exactly hitting Mr. Brown Avenue. Just outside Chishang town, the narrow asphalt roads crisscross through the rice fields, and there are beautiful photos to be taken everywhere.
Look around the pancake-flat landscape and see where the Taiwanese are buzzing around on their four-wheeled bikes. That's where the best photo opportunities are.
We met at least 50 bikes filled with cheerful Taiwanese who greeted and waved, and - when possible - wanted to be photographed with us. It was a real party, and we still can't wipe the big smiles off our faces.
The visit to Chishang was one of the best during our three weeks in Taiwan.

We visited this place on 20 Mar, taking a train from Taitung to Chishang station (NT$97 each, and takes about 30-40mins traveling time). Once you are out of the station, there are plenty of bicycle rental shops along with the way to Mr Brown Ave. We rented a two-seater electric bicycle for NT$500 (unlimited time, but the battery last for about 3 hours of continuous traveling).
The ride from the train station to the first attraction, Dapao pond, took about 3mins. Next stop to Mr Brown Ave, about 10-15 mins ride from the pond. This is where you see all the padi field and mountains. Great place to relax and enjoy the fresh air.
We arrived at Chishang station around 1140 hours and left for Hualien at 1538 hours.

Brown's Road is beautiful and fascinating! Choosing a great weather to visit is important. There is no parking on site, therefore you must park you car in the bike rental place when you rent your bike. There are lots of bike rental companies/ places in the area. Rental prices are around $500 to $800 NTD. You might think it is expensive, however remember the bike rental company has also included the cost of parking on their site included in the rental fee. There is also no toilet on Brown's Road, so it is recommended that you go to the public toilets before hopping on to your bikes.
One of the attraction on the Brown's Road is the 金城武 tree. The tree is famous because it is featured on one of the EVA Air's commercial with 金城武. There will be a queue to take the photos with tree with the mountain landscape.
Ride your bike and enjoy the great country view!

Brown's Road is about an hours drive out of Taitung City. We had a rental car and the drive is beautiful. We felt even if we didn't find the rental bikes, the drive was justified by the scenery. We stopped at the first place we came to (not sure how many other rental options there are). It's a cash transaction, no paperwork and we were off and running on our sporty electric tandems. This is a glorious activity, even in December when the fields were brown. Only word of caution; we went kind of far,
and off the bike only path (not intentionally) and our charge ran out. If language permits, inquire about how long the charge will last! Afterwards we opted to drive highway 23 through the mountains back to the coast. This route added about 40 minutes to the ride, but it is a amazing mountain road with beautiful vistas and views. Incredible! Not for the faint of heart novice driver as it is a sporty course!

The place is famous due to no lamp post along the route surrounded by Paddy field. Its also being called as "The Road leads to Heaven". Suggest to go during June and November which is the harvest season where the scenery looks much nicer. I went there on early December which the harvest season just over and only soil observed from some of the fields. But it doesn't stop me to enjoy the session by cycling with my wife and two young daughters. No access by car allowed. Cycling or walking are the only two options. The distance is approximately 2km from end-to-end. There are lots of shops right at the entrance of Brown's Avenue which involved in bicycle renting business. The price are all the same as its kinda governed by local authority. Thus to rent from the shop nearest from the entrance could be the better option. I managed to get a four-wheeled cycle at TWD400 (usual price TWD500) as an offer due to my two young age daughters (3 & 5). There are also electric cycle available. Recommend to go for electric cycle for family travel with elder kids/teenager as parts of the road are slope where can be difficult to climb if manual four-wheeled cycle being used. Overall, it is a family activity not to be miss when you travel to Taitung.

Made Famous by a Taiwanese/Japanese superstar for an advert of Mr Browns` coffee, this rural area has successfully become a busy tourist hub.
Riding a bicycle to see the tree is the status quo, and there are numerous hiring companies situated at the entrance of Browns` road motioning car drivers to utilize free car parking for hiring bicycles. The bikes come in a variation of wheels-four, six, or a double rider, or with electric motoring for the fatigued.
Experience how the road edges travel and meet at the horizon of the cloud-capped mountains amongst tranquil surroundings, and the calm country pace of life. Picturesque, postcard-perfect backdrop and a peaceful atmosphere entice all who behold this natural beauty land.
Apparently the green fields become golden after harvest.
Check out the numerous images on the internet to get "the picture".
Unfortunately the tree is not what it used to be… (weather worn, human torn?)
There are multiple poles/logs/scaffolding keeping the tree erect, looking like a tree on crutches…..
Multiple bicycle paths sited easy for any rider and family friendly.
We somehow managed to take 3 bikes (vehicle does not have bike stands) for our children (6,8,10 y/o) on our 2D1N adventure and were happy to have brought our own kids bikes, as we noticed many hiring companies only have adult bikes or family (4,6 seaters) bikes.
The Chishang minsu 池上玩傢 (bed n breakfast) we stayed at nearby (No 308, Zhongshan rd) provided free bikes for guests, complete with complimentary Mr Brown instant coffee and water bottles.
It rained just before and after our visit to Browns` road. Be sure to check the weather forecast!
Attraction visited 14th May 2016.
In summary, a refreshing place to recharge, rejuvenate, re-energize and restart!

Went there in November 2015, expecting the weather to turn cool. Its a pity that the weather still hovers around 30 degrees Celsius. Nevertheless, I still enjoyed cycling on the tracks and taking pictures, so carefree, so relaxing, so beautiful view of the fields. Golden paddy field, words can't describe. I will be back!!

This road was made famous by a Taiwanese advertisement from years ago. If you don’t know the advert, you will be wondering what’s the big deal about the tree... but it’s a lovely road for cycling. Surrounded by rice paddies. Has a nostalgic feel to it all

Hi all, I am planning to arrive by train, dropping off at Chishang station. While I will rent a bike as many have suggested, wondering if it is easy to navigate to the destination, eg is there a direct route to it? I can surely follow my Google Map but in the off chance if my map is not working.. being a bit paranoid as I will be solo tripping..

請問應坐火車還是鼎東去池上?伯朗大道及附近景點能用走路嗎?看見有人說電動腳踏車,跟平常腳踏車一樣要平行嗎?去大坡池可以走路嗎?謝謝。
Written 17 March 2018

When is the most green-paddy field at Brown Road? I am going to go here in Apirl. I love to see green or yellow color of paddy field, I wonder Apirl is the suitable time to go there -_-
Thank for your contributions :)

Are there any places that hire tricycles (3-wheel cycles)? I am not a good cyclist and prefer the stability offered by a tricycle. Any advice appreciated. Thanks.
Written 14 May 2015
Yes, 3-wheel cycles are available, you can rent it here. Some hotels or B&B also provide bicycle renting, you may check directly with them while place booking.
