For anyone who has ever read the book "The World without Us" (by Alan Weisman, about what would happen to the natural and built environment if humans suddenly disappeared) this site will strike a chord. Around 1867 a warehouse was built near Anping Harbour which...More

There are a number of paths & raised platforms to explore in the Anping Tree House, you can see the knotted roots of the giant Banyan tree on the ground or you can take the stairs to view the house from the skyway above. It's...More

It is quite a surprise to see these old house walls totally engulfed by the roots of the banyan tree. Visitors can also walk out in a raised walkway to see the river, the mangroves and the distant view of Tainan.

Really interesting to see how much the tree has taken over the house. Walking among the branches gives amazing views. If you are in Tainan this is a must see.

It is what the title says. It is an interesting scene to see but less attractive than the Zeelandia fort and the street market behind it. If you are in Anping, it is worthwhile to spend half an hour in it.

This is quite a worthwhile experience, to see how an old building has become overgrown and taken over by trees. The adjacent museum was okay.

Many interesting historical tidbits can be learned from the buildings at this complex. The old banyan trees are a sight to see. Regrettably, some of hanging posters in the tree house interrupt the majestic look of the banyan vines.

Anping District is the area first developed in Taiwan.
It is also the key to Taiwan’s involvement in the
international community. The two famous historic
monuments, Anping Fort (a.k.a. Fort Zeelandia) and
Eternal Golden Castle leave behind them the traces of
international trade made by various countries. Another
historic monument that stands the test of time is Tree
