About
The vineyard of Château de la Selve was created in 2002 by Benoit and Florence Chazallon. 6 different grapes varieties are planted on the estate, and the average age of the vines is 30 years old. Today we practice an organic and biodynamic viticulture on 40 hectares. The wineshop is opened yearly to taste our wines. We organise some visit to discover our domain and our methods of work.

We had a really lovely visit. Our guide was very knowledgeable & very nice. She was very patient with my children. The wine itself is also great! Would highly recommend!

Interesting and informative. Wine tasting afterwards to discover what and how they craft their wines

We visited the free wine tasting on a Wednesday evening. It's only a smallish vineyard but our ' guide' managed to talk for almost 2 hours before we got to the tasting! Non French speakers had to wait so it was a long evening. Parts were interesting but it was too long. Wine was good but better was the saucisson seller- we bought 3 for 10 euros- better value than the wine. Would I recommend? Not really unless you have loads of time to spare and want to know the shape of every kind of vine leaf!

Thank you for your visit. Unfortunately, you came on the only Wednesday when the visit was a bit long! It takes only nearly 1 hour usually. We are sorry for this inconvenance but I also remind that the visit and the tasting are free...Regarding the price of our wines, we can hardly do better than the saucissons of our friend Alain! The first cuvées are less than 10 € for wines worked in organic and biodynamic culture. See you soon hopefully!

It was not friends it was my three adult children and two of their partners. They were mostly peed off because one of my sons is a brewing/distilling enthusiast and it was his idea and hadn’t told them it was 2 hours and the temperature was 42 degrees. Luckily after the history of the château, which was fascinating. We then were inside the winery in cool temperatures. It I fished off with a wine tasting that was as informative as it was delicious. They have a French and English tour at the same time. All the other people were German on our tour. The ardeche has very few British tourists but English is the second language of a lot of European nations so I can understand why they had this. Also the Wednesday evening tour is free and you still get the wine tasting accompanied by loads of sossicon and fromage de chèvre. The previously sceptical part of our group absolutely loved it. Massive success and together we bought about 9 bottles off them. I think the free tour makes decent financial sense. Particularly as another reviewer, who obviously paid, said they had a personal tour. Our English one had fifteen and the French one 25ish and everyone bought loads of wine at the end. I think the fact it was free( and they never pushed for sales) meant everyone spent very freely. One German family must have spent at leat 400 euros. Totally recommend this place. Can’t do better

Excellent tour and explanation of the winery overall. We enjoyed hearing about the history of the land, the different grapes being grown, all including an organic and biodiverse system in place for the 9 different wines. The fermentation and aging processes here are second to none. The different flavors from oak and clay barrel aging shined through and we bought 4 bottles to take home. Thank you to the fluent English speaking tourguide, Matt and the lovely young lady that greeted us. The picnic was a nice added attraction to the beautiful grounds. 45 hectares or roughly 111 acres is a lot of land. Again, it is a beautiful landscape. We will return.

Well priced to start with, so really surprised when realising that the tour was just for my wife and I!
Started with a visit to the vineyard, where Paulin described the history and geography as well as techniques used for growing, picking etc. and essentially the thorough, but interesting description carried right through the production and storage areas and then into the tasting of the 9 wines.
All really quite informal, informative whilst all of our questions were answered knowledgeably.
Whilst we happily purchased some wine at the end, no pressure had been applied to do so.
Excellent value and would thoroughly recommend - thanks very much Paulin.

We had a tour of the winery in the morning followed by a lovely picnic at midday. Tour was very informative and our guide was fluent in English to such a very high standard. The picnic was delicious and perfect location. Would definitely recommend and the wine was, of course, delicious and surprisingly varied!

We were facinated and impressed by the Biodynamic method being used in wine making at this Chateau, and the results are impressive. So when we were back in the area a couple of years later, we just had to pop in for a couple of bottles of Berty!

Fantastic winery. At the D111 near Grospierres in a beautiful surrounding area sits the domaine du vin. We enjoyed the pique nique vingeron. Quality of the wine selection high.
