About
Mammoth Cave self-guided tours allow visitors to explore by themselves, while listening to an informative 'audio tour' available in English, French, German, Malay, or Mandarin. This is the easiest of the caves to tour, with the first chamber accessible by wheelchair. Entering the cave through native bushland along a gently sloping boardwalk, visitors can explore the natural time capsule at their own pace. The cave once contained over 10,000 fossils, many of which were the remains of long-extinct giant animals known as Australian Megafauna. Visitors can even view a 50,000-year-old 'zygomaturus' jawbone embedded in the cave wall. After exploring the cave, visitors can take an optional bushwalk back to the guide's station and enjoy the magnificent marri and karri forest surrounding the cave.

    Unexpected Experience
Dropped in on Mammoth Cave (named because of its size) on our way down to Cape Lewin. We were wondering if it would be worth the time and were very pleasantly surprised. Well worth the entry fee and the 1:30 hours it took to look around.

    Beware long climb out!
This cave is well worth a visit. Very specky and cool inside. When you have finished exploring you make a choice as to whether to return back the way you came or exit up a very steep narrow staircase to the road and then a longish walk back to the car park. We are both in our 60s and fairly fit so we enjoyed it BUT I note some reviewers might not have realised that this climb and long walk back through the local forest is an option you can choose. If you dont like steep stairs or its hot or happens to be raining we would suggest retracing your steps rather than taking this route OR be prepared to take your time, and take water with you.

    Large Cave.
Mammoth cave name because of the size of the cave. We were in a large group that was broken into two groups. Very easy entry into the cave as we had a large group so had a local guide. Wonderful experience to view the stalactites and stalagmites lit up wonderful + the skeletal remains of animals found in the cave. Quite a few steps & some grades to climb but if you take your time it is easy.

This was quite an easy cave to examine and one we hadn't seen before. The fossils were stunning and the formations are simply beautiful. The staff were very helpful and engaged in a but of humour with us as well. We took the long walk back as recommended and it was delightful being among such tall timbers

Beautiful cave! The self guided tour was a great feature. The information was presented really well and the above ground walk was also great. Would definitely recommend!

This is a great self guided tour of the cave. With your MP 3 player providing the commentary along the way, you can go at your own pace. This is quite an accessible cave.. The cave itself is quite spectacular and I wound recommend a visit.

WA does a fantastic job in catering to visitors of all abilities in it's attractions. Mammoth Cave is such an example, with accessibility into the first chamber by wheelchair, followed by steps of an easy height and safety railings for those more mobile. The self guided commentary on a portable device was easy to navigate and was very informative. The lighting and highlighting of natural features was commendable making it all a very enjoyable experience.

We have never done a self guided tour of a cave…but this was great. Do it at your own pace. It was not busy when we did this which also made it hassle free. Loved the variety of people who gave info on the cave.

Nature at its best, well worth the visit. Having headphones and a remote to listen at our leisure was great. Staff were helpful. The shorter way to the exit and shop is all steps though whereas the other way is flatter apparently.

Well worth the tour particularly with the accompanying earphone guides throughout.
Not very arduous for those who are older like us and very interesting in the viewing and listening throughout the tour

Such a wonderful natural formation and well worth the price to see. We did the self guided tour and were only 8 other people in the cave so felt like we were alone at times. Such a well marked way to see this amazing cave. There are a lot of stairs if you want to see it all but take your time there’s no rush and enjoy the beauty around you.

The caves were large and cavernous. The walkways were easy to navigate and the audio commentary highly professional. Some great features. Be prepared for a few steps on the way out. Highly recommended.
