Beautiful drive down Caves Road. For the best ‘lighting’ go in the later afternoon but before sunset. The angle of the light shines through the trees and the light/shadows are glorious. Take care on Caves Road, you can pull in in some places to stop for a photo, but the drive itself is lovely. If you’re intrepid, you can turn off Caves Rd onto the Boranup Drive which is a firm/compacted gravel road. If you’re familiar with gravel driving you will be fine and it has much less traffic, allowing you to pick a place to stop. If not, you won’t miss anything (there are plenty of trees!!) if you stay on Caves Road.

Absolutely awesome! Another world there. Some viewing plateforms along the way. Sad to see many many folks had graffited several trees scratching their names into trunks. A reglious group set up in one pull in, with stand displaying their mag - rather annoying to spoil, so didnt stay long.

It's worth the detour from Cave Road. It takes about 30 minutes and on gravel road suitable for 2WD vehicles. There's a lookout with toilet and picnic facilities. This may not be as spectacular as the forests near Pemberton.

Lovely part of the National Park and can be enjoyed with a drive along Caves Road. We decided to venture into the forest with a drive along Boranup Drive and after just under an hour rejoined Caves Road. Good quality sand/gravel track, some debris from trees as a result of the strong winds but otherwise an easy drive. My GPS kept directing us to tracks that were no better than cleared trails, we just ignored it and stayed on the main Drive. Detoured to the lookout, fantastic views to the ocean and coastline despite the overcast conditions. Majestic tall trees surrounded us the entire route. We passed a couple of ladies on horseback, a much better method of transport to enjoy the forest than sitting in a vehicle.

What a wonderful drive between Margaret River on our way to Hamelin Bay. We enjoyed about 13km of the most majestic and beautiful trees towering about us. We stopped at the Boranup Drive Lookout point for a wander in the trees and it was so serene - just the noise of the birds and nothing else. Broke up our journey very nicely. FYI - No facilities.

Boranup Drive is well worth doing. The forest of Karri trees is beautiful and not to be missed. There is also a viewing point / parking bay just off Caves Road where the Karri forest is breathtaking.

The forest can be accessed just off Caves Road on foot, or you can drive through parts of the forest. The trees are impressive both in high and straightness. You should be able to see the effects of recent fires and appreciate that it is needed for forest regeneration. The area is very quiet and peaceful.

The Karri forest along Caves Road is gorgeous. There is a grove near a parking spot on the side of the road near Boranup is amazing. The thicker bush between the trees is transformed to low growing ferns which gives it a rather magical atmosphere. A local recommendation is to go onto the unsealed Boranup Drive road - which is a complete waste of time. Trees not nearly as tall as on the side of Caves road, much thick high bush in between the trees and the so called Lookout on the Drive is a non event.

Boranup Forest is just the most gorgeous piece of the world!
A drive through the forest is a must when visiting the area, down Boranup Drive, which starts from Caves Road just south of Lake Cave and re-joins Caves Road 11km further south, towards Augusta. If you're travelling along that part of Caves Road, then a detour up Boranup Drive is a very worthwhile and picturesque alternative route. The forest was logged over 100 years ago, and the karri trees that have regrown are now up to 60m tall and very spectacular. The area is full of birdlife.
The road is gravel, and bumpy, but suitable for most cars, although some of the side tracks are only suitable for 4 wheel drive vehicles. We parked on a side track and got out and went for a walk to a couple of spots where there are old picnic tables (no other facilities) and climbed to a point where there was a great view out over the ocean.
After completing the drive we returned north up Caves Road, and made a worthwhile stop at Boranup Gallery where there is a huge collection of local artist's work - paintings, sculpture, furniture, and all sorts of interesting things. There have a gorgeous cafe and toilet facilities are available there.

The karri forests are really worth a sighting, but it took a little while to work out the various listings on TA. The easiest approach is to drive down south from Margaret River along Caves road. Just before reaching the turnoff for Boranup Drive, there is a small parking gravel parking bay on the left hand side where you can safely pull off. Just before the parking bay, Caves road will dip downwards as it descends into the forest grove, and the road will bend to the left - slow down, and the bay is on the left. There are forest paths into the grove of trees - and it is quite a unique experience to be surrounded by a vertical line of trees towering above, with the sunlight slashing through in patterns of bark and light. Further along, the northern loop of Boranup drive starts off on the right, surrounded by more Karri trees. To reach the Boranup lookout point, it's faster to continue southwards on Caves road and take the southern loop of Boranup drive. A couple of km in, there is a sign for the Boranup lookout point. This is sadly more disappointing, as the undergrowth here is more scrubby while the lookout point just shows you the rolling treetops from above. Boranup drive is unpaved gravel/sand, and non-Aussie drivers may feel a little intimidated to take normal sedan cars down this route. The Boranup lookup point GPS coordinates are also on the WA parks website, if needed.

This attraction is shown as in New South Wales, however, it is actually located in a magnificent area of Western Australia - it's on the west coast, not on the east coast as indicated! Only about 4,000 kilometres difference!

May I know if there is a supermarket within walking distance? How about local transportation e.g. train/bus stations?
