About
Soak in nature at its best—Grutas Tolantongo is home to hot springs and a cave and tunnel complex, surrounded by lush, tropical vegetation. Camp overnight, or check yourself into a hotel near the man-made pools that cascade down the mountainside. For the more adventurous, there’s a suspension bridge, zipline, and a cave system with shoulder-deep water and bats flying overhead. Wear appropriate shoes with enough grip to handle the slippery rocks and tunnels. You’ll find several restaurants and bars and shops to purchase provisions. Bring sufficient cash—even the hotels in the area don’t accept credit cards. – Tripadvisor

My friends and I decided to visit this place where we were recommended to visit. It took about 3-4hrs travel from CDMX. We were welcomed with beautiful nature of San Cristobal’s valley and it was foggy. We tried the hot bath but it was not a natural thermal bath. We did not try the river because the place was so crowded with locals and campers. Worth a trip and the entrance fee only MXN150.

Little jewel that hardly anyone outside locals knew about when I was there. If I’d do it again I would do it the local way with tents and grills and camping style instead of their rooms in the hotel like building they have. Gorgeous place, so much to do and see, the grotto was out of this world beautiful and the river is the color blue I’ve never seen before! Weekdays over weekends due to crowding though. Highly recommend!

Three hours from CDMX is this gift that keeps giving. Airbnb experiences have some wonderful groups that can drive small groups up to this place. It’s amazing. From the hot springs to the natural waterfall and just another place that Mexico hides so well! This was one of my favourite days on my entire month trip!

What an incredible experience. This park is worth the drive and anything else that might happen on the way. We just wished we had more time to explore the surrounding areas. A trip worth making a second and third time. Make sure you bring Cash No CC are accepted and the only phone service is Tel Cel.

This is normally a fantastic place as other reviews mentioned. However in July 2021 there was a storm which destroyed the banks of the river making it inaccessible. As a consequence the little pools in the upper part were overcrowded.
It appeared in the news how the river destroyed the backs but a few days later the Facebook page of the Grutas de Tolantongo said they were open again for business not mentioning that the river was not accessible.
Don’t get me wrong this is a wonderful place and under normal circumstances I’d rate it with 5 stars.
Not being informed of the situation was disappointing

This was an amazing and unique experience and one of the highlights of our trip. It was around three hours each way from Mexico City, and the tour there took all day. However, if you have a day to spare it's totally worth it. The views from from hot springs are spectacular and the caves are amazing as well.

This place is ABSOLUTELY AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL. However, these are advertised as hot springs and the water was maybe lukewarm. We just went for the day and man getting there in and of itself was an adventure. Talk about hairpin turns. But the actual pools are great with the most awe inspiring views. Would definitely go back, but stay at the hotel on the grounds for a couple of days so that we could explore more.

I recently visited Grutas Tolontongo , a vulcanic site in Mexico, and I am pleased to write a review.
The place is stunning. The drive there is absulutely gorgeus , with views of rolling green hills lined with trees. The journey itself is an adeventure as you can see the volcano looming in the distance slowly getting bigger until you arrive.
The steam rising from the volcanic pools is incredibly peaceful and calmimg. The colors of the water were a beatiiful array of blues.
I would higly recommend Grutas Tolantongo to anyone looking for an interesting out. It provide a sense of mistery and adventure that will stay with you fior long time.

One of the most beautiful places I ever visited. No photos makes justice to this place. The water is so beautiful and so warm, so many little places to explore inside the park! I’ll definitely be back!

Saludos
