Breathtaking views, fascinating history, deeply moving account of life and death, particularly of the nearly 1000 incumbent Jews committing mass suicide rather than lose a battle against the Romans and become their slaves. Masada attracts thousands of people every day, mostly by the coachload. The vast...More

We had a fabulous day driving into the dead sea and stopped here to take the cable car for great views of the surrounding area. Didn't have to wait long, easy parking and limited queue for the cable car when we visited.

The only reason we went here is because it was part of our tour. Yes there is a lot of history and it was very interesting. However, for my touring style, I was over it after about 30 minutes. it was very hot. They shoved...More

Masada has a wonderful interpretative museum and cable car to take you up ( and down) the mountain. It is worth paying extra for both. The National Park is worth a detour.

Take the cable car up to the site of Herod's fabulous palace (which looks like some modern billionaire's fantasy home in California) and learn about the tragic Masada rebellion. Excellent signage and maps. Plus the models show you what it looked like in its heyday....More

Predawn Hike up Snake Path is challenging. So worth it for us. Arrive at guard house hour before sunrise to buy tickets. Even though there were quite few people, went fast. Path wasn’t crowded. People are courteous. Rocky, gravel walking. Take your own water. To...More

I don't think so--I didn't see any guides hanging around. There is an audio guide you can rent, and the map they hand out is full of information.
