About
We'll be going into a hands on beekeeping fun and educational experience. After an introduction and safety lesson you will be taught how to be a bee keeper including topics such as tools and equipment, bee life cycles and roles, multiplying bees and swarms, pests and diseases, Queen rearing. Flow hive invention. Q & A. Following the theory lesson then it is over to you, it's your turn to open up a bee hive, pull out the frames one by one and find the queen, check she is laying eggs properly, check there are no pests or parasites attacking the hive on the inside and remove frames of honey for collection if there are any frames that are full. If honey is ready for harvesting we will extract the honey from the wax honeycomb, either using a centrifuge extractor or mash with potato masher and strain. Followed by various tastings. Although all reasonable measures are taken to prevent bee stings or injuries. This class is at your own risk.

Amazing and Educational Experience

The beekeeping experience being run by Martin is excellent. The 4 hours went by very quickly. I loved that the whole course was held outside in a unique setting surrounded by hives and the water nearby.

The theoretical and practical sides are very well balanced. You are given a chance to see and touch all the things being talked about. The topics are really well thought out and give you enough knowledge to learn quickly on your own afterwards and also feel confident in giving beekeeping a try yourself. A lot of small details were provided about how bees behave and how things work inside the hive.

One of the many highlights of the course is the chance to open an active hive yourself. It is done step by step under supervision but you are made to feel safe and really given a chance to get a feel for all the steps. I think this helps in giving you confidence in attempting it yourself.

At the end we had a very good chat as a group and got to try and few different honeys. This rounded out the experience really well and gave you a chance to taste the finished product. I would recommend this experience highly to anyone even if you are not actively looking to get into beekeeping.

Martin really knows his stuff. We decided to book in just for something different to do and we were pleasantly surprised about how much we enjoyed ourselves. Martin really trusts you to be hands on and this is something we will talk about and recommend to anyone curious about bees or just curious in general :)
