No longer accessible. There is a large bamboo and barbed wire wall built up in front of the entrance. We went here to hike early in the morning for sunrise and were unable to cross this new wall. Our homestay owner knew we were doing the hike and knew nothing of the closure. There were no holes or places to cross through the new wall.

Pergasingan Hill is another attraction just across the magnificent Mount Rinjani. This hill is just the right place to warm up or as a place to train before you go for Rinjani trekking. Very well known among the locals, but yet still need some exposure to many others especially visitors from other country.
The peak is at 1670 meters above sea level, but since Sembalun valley is already 1100 m asl, so the height we actually do is around 570 meters, and normally will take 45 minutes to 1.5 hour. It can take up to 3 hours for the new hikers though.
Aim to start the trekking as early as possible, 7am is perfect, so you can have a great view of the valley. surrounding hills and Mount Rinjani. It gets cloudy around 11 am, so you will miss so much if you start the hiking around this time. The route is obvious, so you can do it on your own without worry of getting lost. Anyway, it is easy to get a guide and porters from the valley if you needed their service.
I went up to Pergasingan's peak with the same guide who brought me to Rinjani's peak (Dony: +62 853 3877 3976 / +62 823 4067 9151). He arranged everything from the transportation from the airport, finding the hotel around Sembalun Valley, porters, all the necessary equipment and 4 meals per day. We even had great time went around the valley and take photos at the most beautiful spots. Thumbs up for the great service for both my trip to Sembalun. I even recommended this trekking to friends from Germany, and they really love the experience.
Once you reached the camp site, just relax and enjoy the magnificent view and the clean fresh air it offers. Look out for cow dungs though, as interestingly there are so many hyperactive and strong cows feed on the fresh grass at the hill top.
The sunset is so amazing, almost magical when the clouds started to thickens slightly below the hill top and the golden sun slightly hiding behind the clouds and Mount Rinjani, it gave that wonderful heavenly feeling. The next morning, just make sure you wake up around 5.30am as the sunset will greet you with another magnificent view.
Going to Pergasingan Hill top might not make you feel as great as being on Rinjani peak....but believe me, it gave a totally different experience and it is super beautiful up there. I'm just grateful I have done both!

So this trip was just what I wanted seeing as I knew I was not fit enough for Rinjani! We organised a guide through Muji Trekker (very much recommended) and completed the climb for sunrise. The views of sunrise and Rinjani were fabulous. To have breakfast staring down at the view was breathtaking.
A warning though! It is the wet season and that aside the climb is tough. It's not Rinjani tough but the first hour is very steep and muddy. No steps, we were using hands to scramble up. Of course worth the reward but be aware some angles are 70degrees! And in the wet season very slippery!

8 people completed an overnight trek to the summit. Muji Trekking were amazing. Porters carries tents, water, food for everyone. The guides were amazing and provided individual support. The trek was challenging. The campsite and summit provided extraordinary views. This is a must activity in Sembulan.

Such a WOW view. Makes you feel really small and amaze for GOD creations. With Rinjani just across the Hill. The landscape surround the hills, the village down the hills and luxury green scene and refreshing air really makes us feel calm and relax. Just want to say for fellow hiker who camping on this Pergasingan Hills, please please please do not litter, bring your trash down with you. Since this place started to become famous and many people would like to visit.

Not many people did the trekking when we did that, since it was rainy season. But lucky us that it was not raining that time.
We started the trekking from rinjani homestay at 4.30 am for chasing the sunrise. The hiking trail is challenging since the the first step 😆. At the beginning you will pass through around 107 stairs (if my counting is correct). After that the hiking trail is getting very steep, maybe around 75 degrees. There, you will need to climb. Literally climb!! This part is the hardest along the way up to the top of the hill. After hiking for 1 hour and 45 mins the sun began to rise. We stopped at the first spot to record that beautiful moment. The combination of the sunrise, hills, mount rinjani and the paddy field is awesome. The view hypnotize everyone and you will suddenly have your energy back.
We continue our journey to the top of the hill and breathtaking view can be seen. In total we need five hours to go up and down hill. Fyi, this is my second experience do the hiking. If you are the person who likes to do the hiking you will need shorter time.
This pergasingan hill is really worth a visit!! Recommended!!
