About
Welcome to Enjoy the row boat ride leading up to the three caves in the area—where stalactites and stalagmites shimmer like gemstones just inches from the water. Alternatively, you can ride a bike along the peaceful rice paddies. Don’t miss the centuries-old Bich Dong Pagoda here as well. Located about 65 miles from Hanoi, the Tam Coc area makes a wonderful day trip from Vietnam's capital—you can hop on a tourist bus, local bus, or train to get here.

    Beautiful tourist trap
Went with my hubby and 3 year old with a tour. It’s very easy to get to the ticket office and book your own ticket. No queues at all. The boat trip was safe at took approximately an hour. The scenery is beautiful. However it’s a tourist trap. The boat purposely takes you and stops at some ladies selling snacks. They are very pushy. They guilt you into buying for the boat man. Anyway after a wonderful ride we were cornered and rudely asked for a tip. Also they demand for a specific tip amount and are not satisfied with small amounts. Besides rowing the boat, we were not even given a smile. Anyway maybe it’s their culture. I recommend tam foc if you can tolerate the rudeness

    Nice part of Vietnam
I have spend there 3 days and it's probably the part of Vietnam I enjoyed the most. Nature there is spectacular, hills, rivers, caves pagodas and overall religious places. Everyone could there what he wants to. I encourage everyone to spend there few days. I was accommodated in family which did perfect service for me. Renting bike, motorbike, doing the laundry and even finding bus to leave..

    Go for the scenery
My family loved Tam Coc. We did the boat ride at Trang An mainly due to reviews and don't regret that decision. Tam Coc area is just so lovely and scenic. Its not hard to find a bicycle and ride around and enjoy at your own pace without being harassed. Do your homework and enjoy. Lots of little shops and homestays. A group of women were practicing a dance or maybe it was just as exercise class, but we enjoyed watching them. Didn't have the co ordination in join in. A highlight in Vietnam and I really hope they don't over tourist this place and destroy the natural beauty.

Tam Coc, Ninh Binh - a place we should visit one time
The real scene is even more magnificent than what I saw in films. Last March, I went to Tam Coc, Ninh Binh with my friends and we took a lot of pretty pictures of nature. Hope to come back in one day^^

relaxing boat ride through stunning scenery
On a day trip that included the ruins of Hoa Lu we also did a 2 hour boat trip of Tam Coc described as the Ha Long Bay on land. Tickets must be bought before boarding the boats which can take up to 4 passengers. There are three route options and our guide recommended route 3 to avoid periods bent over as boats travelled through long caves. Along the river there are several temples and each has a small market offering food/drinks, toilets and souvenirs. Note July is very hot and humid and the best cover is an umbrella. Fans are also essential. Seats are hard and can be comfortable towards the end of the trip so take a small extra cushions if you have a back issue. Boarding and leaving the boat is tricky so this may not suit people with mobility or balance problems but it is a beautiful experience and the temples are stunning.

    2-3 days in Tam Coc.
Nice place for 2-3 days. Came here for boat trips but they were closed - which ended up being a good thing as we did boat trip at Trans An which was better by most accounts (very busy with Vietnamese tourists but that added to the experience). I expect Tam Coc village would have been a lot busier with busses etc had the boat trips ben running there. TC good place to hire bike and just explore. Trang An was about 15 minutes away on a scooter, and the hill with the dragon on about 10 minutes. Enjoyed eating at the TPub for a fix of great western food for a change from local food.

Stay for a few days. Wonderful area
Most people seem to visit the area on day trips from Hanoi but my advice would be to catch the train or get a Grab and come and stay for a few days. There's loads to see and lots to do. We stayed at a homestay for 4 nights and like most of them in the area they provided free push bikes. You can safely cycle to many of the local sites but I'd recommend getting a driver for the day (about $60 dollars) and visiting 3 or 4 of the main sites. We went to Trang An for our boat trip and took route 3. It was stunning and absolutely amazing, there was no hassle and no one trying to sell you anything. 5 ⭐ Tam Coc Horizon bungalows for accommodation. Trang An for boat trip. Cycle to Mua Cave Cycle to various temples and pagodas.

Smaller district within Ninh Binh: highly recommend!
Fab, great, beautiful, quieter, local, nice, wonderful place where you can set your base from where to explore many places. Suggest Amanda Villas as a terrific place to stay, which is a 10minute walk into the touristy centre. Amanda Villas can kit you out with moped &/cycles. Loved Tam Coc area.

Gorgeous Lime Stone Formation - the River version of Halong Bay
Take the 90 minute row boat ride on the river and admire the gorgeous view of the lime stone hills and caves. The scenery here is just as pretty as Halong Bay. The difference is that Tam Coc boat ride allows you to be up close to the formation whereas Halong allows you to see the formations in a larger scale. A must do in Hanoi

    Do not miss doing this!!
Incredible, absolutely loved it!! Breathtaking scenery!! Busy but we still found it serene & tranquil. Pain being asked for a tip, asked to buy souvenirs, asked to pay to get photo taken but all part of it.

Very relaxing area of Vietnam, boat trip was long but enjoyable, our paddler was sweet and paddled mostly with her feet, the boats are small but very stable. I recommend taking a cushion as the seats are metal and uncomfortable for older people or bad backs. The river way is clean and tranquil

The boat ride at Tam Coc through hills and cave grottoes is just lovely. The scenery is beautiful and the boat ride itself really enjoyable.

We chose to stay in Tam Coc for three nights rather than do a day tour from Hanoi. So glad we did.
We organized a 'limo' transfer from Hanoi thro the hotel we booked with in Tam Coc. They run every hour.
Day one we arranged a driver who took us to Trang An, amazing, we were rowed through the waterways and caves and stopped at various temples. Tip...find other people share a boat with, they take 4 at a time. There are three tour options, we choose 2. It was great. Arriving early meant we missed the hoards arriving on the day tours from Hanoi.
Next stop was Bai Dinh. Electric buggies to Wizz you around, ancient Buddist temples and modern temples. Huge gold leaf covered bronze Buddha's and great views from the top of the pergola (elevator!) By that stage we were exhausted! Lots of walking plus high humidity. Fabulous day.
Staying in Tam Coc meant we could walk to the Tam Coc row boats. Arriving shortly after 9am meant we missed the crowds again. Glad we did this as well as Trang An as different experience. Loved the foot rowing technique!

The only real reason you would visitTam coc is to do the row boat cruise down the river past all the rice paddies through the caves and beautiful scenery. The restaurants are fairly good.

More than an hour rowing boat ride along Ngo Dong River. Magnifique. Also needs to keep your head down when going dark, under caves.

Such a peaceful and beautiful place to visit. Drifting on the river amongst the rice fields between the breathtaking mountains. Was definitely an experience and one not to be missed when visiting Ninh Bính province.

We visited Tam Coc on our couple's trip and were blown away by the stunning beauty of this place. The karst formations rising out of the water looked like something out of a fairy tale. Paddling down the river in a small boat, we felt like we were in our own private paradise. Plus, no need for sea sickness pills! Definitely a must-visit if you're in Ninh Binh.

Save your money and go to Trang An. The scenery is great, and the people rowing their boats row with their feet which is a nice novelty, but you don't stop anywhere and the route back is just a reverse, so you'll see the same things twice. Lastly, and the real downside, is that the lady REPEATEDLY asked for a tip! Never had this anywhere, and prior to her asking one would have been set in stone, as it's a hard job, but that put the money back in my pocket and left a sour taste.

You get on small boats and are rowed up the river. There are rice paddy’s along the way and the karst mountains that rise up. You go through three caves and then turn around and go back down the river. The people rowing often use their feet to row. This was a fun experience
