- Soko37Budapest, Hungary13,398 contributionsUnique 🏝️Nested in southern Phu Quoc. Great place to relax, we were lucky to come off season. Almost nobody outside. Peaceful atmosphere comparing with top season crowded place. There is coffee house on beach, some restaurants and activities for kids or adults. Best to reach by motorcycle or taxi 🚖Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 15 October 2023
- bappiKensington, Maryland8 contributionsA paradise of spectacular views, and picture-perfect sunsets!A must-visit for any traveler, from vibrant beach bars and cafes serving refreshing drinks and cocktails, to spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and lush greenery, you won't be disappointed. You can even take a scenic boat tour or cruise departing from the beach for a unique experience. At the end of the day, you can enjoy the picture-perfect sunset views over the horizon, creating a romantic ambiance. Sao Beach is a paradise you won't want to miss!Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 November 2023
- Ray KSydney, Australia156 contributionsGo for the food, not the view...As an older couple from Australia, this tiny little beach itself was not really worth the drive down. There were a few people sitting on chairs overlooking the water, but it was windy, exposed and offered no shade except rental umbrellas. The restaurant on the water however was such a surprise. We thought it would be a real tourist trap, but it was not. The food and drinks may look a little pricey on the menu, but the drinks were excellent and the portion size and quality of the food was first class. We ordered two meals and rice, but could only manage to eat half! If you decide to go, wet your feet and enjoy lunch! Cheers.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 7 December 2023
- lynsey yuan LynPhu Quoc Island, Vietnam1 contributionSand fleas alert!Beautiful beach and natural pool for people to swimming. Water is too warm for this season. And sand fleas is A BIG PROBLEM!! We visited Sao beach and Khem beach for 2 days, and I got at least 35 bites all over the legs and arms!! Don’t know if the bugs are just active seasonally or during the whole year. The bites are big and they itchy like crazy, lasted for many days… BE CAREFULVisited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 April 2024
- Mathew5452 contributionsThe most beautiful beach in Phu QuocThis is one of the most beautiful beaches I've ever been to. The long stretch of white sand along with crystal-clear water. There are plenty of sports activities happening here at very affordable prices. Highly recommended.Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 30 April 2024

VHo Chi Minh City, Vietnam827 contributionsClear white sand beach - Best for season from May - OctoberThe water is brilliant, it's so clean and clear that I could see my feet under the water. This is nice white sand beach for season from May - October. * There are some canoes with owners who will invite you to ride canoe to visit the small pristine island nearby and fishing on the small floating restaurant for seafood lunch... remember to check and bargain the price. It's a nice site and sweet memory for your Phu Quoc trip.Visited April 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 2 June 2024

Lovely beach, night restaurant to eat at, can hire jet ski etc on the beach. Clean compared to some other places in Pho Quoc. Would recommend a visit, you can get a taxi there and ask them to wait, but only pay taxi on return journey

The best beach in Phu Quoc really no other beach like this one . The sand is white and even if there is people on the beach you feel well . The sea is waving but appréciable and water is clear and the temperature wonderful . People rents beds towels and one drink for 200 each person person( parking for motorbike included too).
Remarque still trash closed to the bar .

Isolated from the main road, the Sao Beach is less crowded than the Long Beach situated next to the chain hotel groups. It is perfect for those who love to have a peaceful sunbathing here. Water sports entertainment and equipment can be rent with a reasonable price. Restaurant, toilet, shower facility and a small hotel are also found here. Great place worth visiting!!

Really beautiful beach with clear warm waters, street vendors selling food and drinks and a chance to do some adventure sports ($$).
Picture perfect and great for an Instagram photo.
Would recommend a full day there - can't see the sunset at this beach

Beautiful beach, crystal clear waters and sand like sugar.
Don’t get me wrong it’s busy, but it’s also a long beach. A few little restaurants with seafood and Vietnamese classics.
We stayed for sunset, granted it sets behind you but still beautiful and many tourist leave early so super quiet.
You must go here if visiting Phu Quoc.

This is a public beach so it can be a little crowded but not overly so. There was good seafood available and lots of water sports.
It was a bit messy in places, but sadly that's to be expected on most beaches these days. The sun loungers are a little expensive so you want to make sure you keep your spot

A little piece of paradise (it was), but it will be completely ruined soon, by tourism, like the rest of Phu Quoc.
Hotel & apartment developments all over the island.
The Viet Govt have allowed big business from China and Taiwan to stuff the whole place up, in exchange for infrastructure dollars. Who needs it ?
I was lucky enough to see the place 15 yrs ago, when it was still a small part of "Heaven". Very sad. It's fu..ed now.

No starfish here. It was a Vietnamese play on words, according to the tour guide. But I really enjoyed it. My mom and aunt enjoyed the gentle waters here. It felt like swimming in a Lake rather than a beach. White sand, Jewel blue waters.

Not sure what all the fuss is about. The beach is in the middle of nowhere with beautiful views, but that is it. There is a small hotel, a beach club that was pretty empty but wanted to charge us to enter, despite us saying we wanted to buy food & drink and a Highlands Coffee. It looks like most of the waste has been dumped on the beach & no one has bothered to clean it up. If you go around the corner / around the rocks in the main picture then it is such a sad sight as there is more rubbish / waste than we have ever seen on any beach on our travels. The one hotel there did start to play music really, really loud at around 3pm, so if you are looking for somewhere to relax / chill, then this isn't the place.

Can you get to this beach from the vinpearl resort and spa
Written 10 November 2019
You can.but it will cost to be here from vinpearl.
Vinpearl is north.
Sao beach is south.
Pretty much far from each other.
However if you get good deal like hiring car half day or renting motobike.
It will be a good jeorney.
In the south, to just visit ,hontam cable and j.w.merriet hotel and hoguksa temple.

If hiring a scooter with an Australian license are you legal by Vietnam law. If in need of an international license how do I get one?

AAA is still getting a lot of queries in regards to an IDP for Vietnam. An Australian IDP is not recognised in Vietnam. According to the Ministry of Transport of Vietnam, Vietnam accepts IDPs issued by countries who are members of the Vienna Convention on Road Traffic 1968, of which Australia is not a member. Australia is under the 1949 Convention.
You are required to have a valid Vietnamese driver's licence to drive in Vietnam for all vehicles, including motorcycles of 50cc or more. Non-Vietnamese citizens are only permitted to drive in Vietnam if they hold a temporary Vietnamese drivers licence. Fines for driving without a valid driver’s licence vary.
For a temporary Vietnamese driver's licence, the applicant must hold a valid Vietnamese residence permit of at least three (3) months validity.
In Hanoi, applications for temporary driver's licences should be directed to the Hanoi Urban Transport Management and Operation Centre, 16 Cao Ba Quat Street, telephone (04) 3747 0029, fax (04) 3747 0024. In Ho Chi Minh City, applications should be directed here.

Hello! My husband and I will be on Phu Quoc for 3 days in February. What beach is best for a relaxing feel with restaurant/drink options? We like to go out in the evening for a couple of cocktails so don't want to stay in an area that closes down by 9pm but we also don't want to stay in a party area. Thank you!

Hi I saw your great review about Sao beach and I thank you for your contribution. You have mentioned about renting a lounge chair at Paradiso and your STUFF is safe when going in the water. I usually carry a beach bag with all my personal belongings and of course money in it. Please give me some tips on how to keep your stuff safe. Thank you for your help!!!

We got a lounge chair for nothing as part of staying at la veranda hotel. I did ask the staff there and they said you can rent one if you haven't got a hotel that is aligned with them. It is not a really busy place and you can view your chair etc when you are swimming. A bum bag covered by your towel would be ok. We never worried about it and there weren't a lot of people around. Just make sure you put sunscreen on as the umbrellas don't really block out the uv Ray's. I found out the hard way. Enjoy.

My question is not about Sao Beach, I would like to go to a resort that has individual beach houses and a nice beach, reading all the rewiews I am very confused as they are so different, so would love some help

Here is my experience:
I looked around and ended up picking Novotel Resort. It was pretty nice! Beach front resort, a couple infinity pools and it's own beach.
Here is my warning: most, if not all, of the beaches have trash in the water. Sao Beach was clear and blue but had trash all in the water. Novotel as well, there are people who try to take the trash out of the water all day but I guess it's an issue Phu Quoc has to address.

apologies for late reply. motor bikes are very easy to hire in whole of phu quoc. I wud suggest hiring from duong dong and taking to Sao beach as u will get more options and better bikes. we hired from our hotel was arpund 150 thou dong a day. good luck

Hi thanks for your review. Why was Long Beach not recommended? I am thinking of visiting Long Beach in three weeks.
Thanks
Randy
Written 17 October 2016
Long Beach was really rough when we visited. I guess it depends on when you go. If you at the height of the monsoon season, Long Beach might not be a good place to swim/sunbathe in.
